Has anyone heard of the Peace Corps?

I'm a sophomore in college at Stetson University. I want to get my Bachelor's in International Studies with a minor in Spanish. Then I would like to go straight into the Peace Corps for two years, and then come back to the states and get a job. I've not really thought in terms of what kind of job I would want, and I know a lot depends on that, but does anyone think experience in the Peace Corps could possibly make up for a lack of a Masters degree or higher? I've been speaking with various advisors about the whole thing lately, but I would kind of like some open feedback from anyone who has feedback to give.

So yeah, any help, information, or experience would be awesome! Thanks!

I think almost everyone has heard of the Peace Corps. No, I don't think it will 'make up' for not having a masters degree or higher. Certainly not. However, it will look great on a CV and it's going to look great in terms of world experience. Also, while in the peace corps you have the option of doing a ton of stuff;construction, public speaking, etc. So, it will get you places in terms of career. I know of people who have been in the Peace Corps (in Kenya, for example) and really enjoyed their time and THEN went on to get a MA and also some others who went as far as to get their PhD.
If you really want to do it it's going to be great for world exposure. It will benefit you perhaps in the future in terms of employment. It's just a question of whether you are okay with putting 2 years or so aside for it. Are you in a financially decent position so you're alright when you're done in the P.C. ? Joining will also give you some time to think about what you want to do later on. No one can make the best choice but you so just think it over! Good luck .

I think this is the wrong forum to post military stuff because I posted a military thread days ago and have had no responses either. Either that or bl'ers are against the military and/or have no experience on it.

soundsystem - E&C isn't the busiest forum on bluelight. Therefore, it sometimes takes a while to get good responses. I saw Jerry gave a pretty thorough response to your thread. I expect more will come if you give it a few days. :)

IAmTheWalrus - this forum is perfectly suited for addressing such a question. However, there was a fairly long thread on the topic of the peace corps in Second Opinion a while back. Here is the link:

Feel free to ask more questions in this thread though!

I don't know much about the Peace Corps, sorry. I hope others can provide you some guidance. :)
