Humidity does not feel good, man :|

We've barely had a summer at all in the UK these last coupla years. The odd few days where it's stupidly hot but mostly either warm, grey and horridly humid or chilly, wet and miserable. My location speaks the truth :(

Finally arrived?

Fuck man, the summer's almost gone here... :..(

haha, I say that because we've been stuck in a warm spring for most of the summer. It's been on the cool side and rain like I've never seen. The river is by far the highest I've ever seen it; we don't have a shore anymore; the water comes right up to the bank, it's crazy.

These are the first truly hot and humid days; the kind of weather typical of our summers here. I actually like the heat. I'm one of those people who loves to bake around without a shirt on during the summer and go swimming when it gets really hot.

I saw something really sad on my way home today. I man in his early 60s got hit riding his bike. People were helping him but no police or ambulance had arrived yet. He was lying face down on the asphalt and his face was covered it blood; I'm pretty sure he took a faceplant right into the pavement. He was awake and breathing so that was good, but he's going to be hurting for a while. Lots of stitches are going to be needed.

I've always not really agreed with not being allowed to ride a bike on the sidewalk. I would never ride a bike on a busy main street sidewalk full of people but I would also never ride my bike where the cars go; you just can't keep up with the flow of traffic; it's downright dangerous. When I ride my bike when I'm not in the country, I ride on the sidewalk, veer off and yield to any pedestrians.

If a cop ever gave me a ticket for riding on a sidewalk I'd probably just say to the cop "I'd rather pay this ticket than ride on the road".

The guy who got hit was in a left turn lane on a fairly busy road. If it were me I would have been riding on the right shoulder and made the crossing at the light, using the crosswalk, not the left turn lane meant for cars.

I realize the driver of the car is partly to blame, but in the end, in the interest of my personal safety, I would have never been in that position.

Riding on the road is not fun, yes.

The best city for riding a bicycle would be copenhagen IMO. There's bicycle lanes on every road, and there are probably more bicycles than cars in that city... It's the bicyclist's dream city.

I can't help but think that the hippies of christiania have had an influence on that...

I watched a special on TV about a trip David Suzuki (a Canadian environmentalist) took to Europe. One of the sections was on Denmark and Copenhagen; it looked like a really cool place and that everyone biked everywhere. I'd like to go there when I travel to Europe.

Right now its 100F with 55% humidity...arrrggg

haha, yeah, I like it hot, but that might be over the top. I go down there when it's -30C up here ;)

LOL its so ridiculous how we Americans haven't converted to the metric system yet..

It ruins the flow of conversation for everyone by making us all specify units haha

especially when most everything i learn in school is metric, and then going back to everyday life theres all these shits that i can't immediately visualize in my head EVEN THOUGH i'm american

My dad's still on the imperial system and it drives me crazy. 20 leagues to a furlong? :p

I understand the american system and can get by with it but metric is just so much easier and more precise. It also seems to be the system used by most of the world so it's just easier to not convert units. The US was going metric back in the 70s when Canada did but for some reason the US backed out of it.
