🌟🌟 Social 🌟🌟 PD Social Thread 2022-2025 v. Year of the Phenethylamine

Been feeling depressed and very low energy so I'm gonna go dose 5mg of 3-MeO-PCE orally and go do some gardening work.
Well I decided to come back. Life is pretty fucked atm. Im still gonna stay sober. If everything goes to mega shit I will get myself a sheet of acid and drop out of society totally for a year.
Welcome back Trip! Very glad to see you back here.

Our dishwasher crapped out... came with the house, and it's been working fine for 14 years. Been falling down a rabbit hole, called the number for it, it's a Kenmore so got connected with Sears Home Services... they offered an appliances home warranty plan for $50/month that covers all major appliances, they'll repair or replace if they can't repair, for a service fee (apparently)... except the dishwasher would only be 50% off since it's already broken. Or, they'd send someone out for a $119 fee to diagnose the problem and fix it, which would be waived if you had them fix it. But who knows how much that would be, and it's already old. I'm reading reviews on new dishwashers and seems like all the ones in the $500-600 price range have issues with not drying dishes, because of energy saving standards. Same issue with the clothes washer I bought recently, it doesn't actually clean the clothes very well because it doesn't use enough water. Everything is built cheaply these days. I'm not really sure what to do, honestly.

I've really been hit with a lot of costs lately... had $700 on my car for some stuff, mostly a stupid O2 sensor so I could pass inspection. Spent $1600 on my cat, I have insurance on him but it's super shitty, at the time it was the only pet insurance option but since then it has become pretty popular and normal insurance companies are offering it... my friend has insurance on his pets through State Farm (I think it's State Farm) and it's so much better than Trupanion (the one I use) that it's not even funny. I have a $1000 deductible for each condition, and they always try to dispute every fucking bill. So currently I'm not sure whether they'll agree to pay me back the $600 over the deductible I've spent, though I'm having my vet write them a letter. And now the dishwasher... the fridge is old too, I have a feeling it's gonna go soon.

Sigh...

Sorry to hear about all the bills @Xorkoth that sucks. I've been through a cycle of dishwasher problems, even had one catch fire! (It was a kenmore lol). Finally got a slightly more expensive one, like let's say 1/3 of the way up from the bottom of the price range, and it's been pretty good. I noticed that the ones with plastic interiors (instead of stainless steel) are way cheaper and work just as well. The steel is just for looking good. I actually really like the energy saving ones, they run super quiet and save on energy costs. Sometimes we put our dishes away with a couple drops on them and it's fine. Plastic containers have to go in the dish rack to air dry for a bit.

Dishwashers are such a great invention, they save so much toil, totally worth the price tag.

issues with not drying dishes
pro tip: right now I mostly use an express program on mine which takes only 30min and doesn't dry at all. when it's done I aim to open it immediately, which I manage to do most of the time since it is so quick. the steam can escape and since the content is still fairly hot, it just dries fine in the open, no drying stage needed. ;)

Last week I found out my grandmother has cancer and probably only a few months to live. I flew done to Florida for the weekend and met her and my mom. I took some 2C-B with me. It was a really beautiful experience. A lot of the time I take life for granted, but being with a dying relative highlighted the preciousness of life. Rather than mourning her decline it felt like a celebration of her life. We took her to the beach and dragged her to the water in her wheel chair with her oxygen tank. At night she was sleeping in her chair and I just sat with her for a while. I realize I don't appreciate what I have enough, and I don't use my life to the fullest potential because of that. Like just the ability to walk.

I used a 2C-B nasal spray. It burned a little but not to bad, it was useful to be able to redose as often as needed. It helped to connect with everyone and to contemplate and feel into the importance of life and death and love and whats important. I wish that we could all take acid together and bond as a family and celebrate her life and death together.

I took a very little mushroom dose with my girl last friday. It was just 0.5, and I expected to barely feel something, but for whatever reason it hit us fairly hard ! I was having visuals and all, and it was not very mind fucky at all but I had an outflow of emotions ... we spent like 2 hours talking non stop about some stuff we've been dealing with lately.
It was extremely cleansing and therapeutic though, I feel so much better about some stuff. It was also fun, we laughed a lot. On the come down we watched Jim Jarmusch's Coffee and Cigarettes. I love Jarmusch but had never watched that one. Such a good film. And it felt like it was the perfect thing to watch in that slightly trippy, slightly stoned state.

Funny how a little dose can go a long way sometimes.

Wish everyone a nice week !

I set up our production server today. We have some rather tech-illiterate people doing the second round of UAT, and they managed to break the app in a few totally unexpected ways by being total idiots. But the goal is to make it idiot-proof.

Production V1 release is getting very close. :) Also my yearly review is on Friday and I'ma have a sitdown with my boss about my pay.

Yeah it's true, it is impossible to comprehend the level of idiocy that will come along. But hopefully by putting it in the hands of idiots, the people who will actually be using it, with training, will be at least slightly less idiotic than the minimum threshold of idiocy it is proof against. :Sherlock:

I remember a guy I worked with named Art. He sat next to me, died of cancer. But one of his timeless lines was "you can idiot proof but a bigger idiot will always come along"

Good deal on the production releases.
Almost made a pretty good Seinfeld joke (imo), then I realized the guy died and I couldn't think of a way to not make it sound distasteful =D

Anyone here that plays Catan?
I recently lost a game irl, which I dislike, so I bought it and installed it on my phone. Great game man, so many aspects to it, you gotta take a lot of decisions and there's never a clear solution. I don't like the memorization aspect, which is important for trading and your general strategy, though, but that's just because I suck at it.

I need some competition in my life, and I've proven I can't stick to chess. I'd like to play Stratego online as well but I'm scared I'm not good enough since it's not a very popular game, and I have to be honest in that I really don't like losing. Get over it, play the game and enjoy yourself dude

I have the board game and enjoy playing irl but I've never won a game :cautious:

Catan is a good beginner's board game. It's not Monopoly but it can still ruin friendships.

Board games are like first dates. They need a little lubrication. Beer often times helps. And if you show a little TOO much interest in them you end up looking different.

I get bored too quickly with Catan. It's a bit too simple for me I think, by halfway through I'm ready to be done, generally. I hear the expansions make it more interesting, I haven't played any of them though.

2 years ago on this date I had one of the most powerful acid trips of my entire existence def top 5. Transcended space time and saw god in infinite dimensions. Been thru quite a bit over the year. That trip changed my life forever. And out of the blue things have changed and im feeling really good today. So many things can come full circle. Sept is a month of trials for me that birth me into a new human every time. These days I do not consume any drugs. I miss acid but ima try stick to been sober

Power Grid is a really cool strategy game. The rules seem complex at first, so the first time you go through it you have to learn the whole time, but once you get the hang of it it's awesome and a really cool model for how energy, markets, development work. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_Grid

I super recommend it if you're into strategy board games, it's similar to Catan in some ways, but more sophisticated.

I've only played the one with the boats... Its cool for novelty but I prefer the main game.

I dont agree that it's a simple game though, yes there's not too much you can do and it's easy to learn but I'm sure there are a lot of subtleties you don't see after playing a couple times. There's a reason it's played semi competitively.

I played a card game online for a couple years, until the site shut down, and in essence it was an easy game where you could get decent quite quickly. But there are so many spots that aren't as clear as you once thought, so in every one of those you can have an edge against others. And since nobody knows the true solution (not even a computer) you just come up with your own kind of strategy and playing style... By the end I was statistically top 10 out of a couple thousand, but there were still clear gaps in my game, only the ones that I knew off but didn't know how to do better. There was a guy or two that you could feel were just way better and understood things about the game that I was yet to discover.

But you need to just churn out hundreds or thousands of games to understand a game at that level. I get the feeling Catan could be similar for me. There's not too much imperfect information however so developing your own playing style isn't as much of a factor, but I still feel like there are quite a bit of tough spots in a regular game, and there must be a very large edge to be gained through trading.
