LOL thanks for unraveling Unodelacosa. You make good points. But I still have to work through whatever barriers stop me from................ well I don't know just what as I do have an interesting job that pays. But I guess I could try for more money. This particular company was bought by a financial institution and thought they would let the 80 or so seasoned people go and send the work to China and India and pay $6.00 to untrained people. It is a sinking ship, a lot of clients so a SLOW sinking ship. Almost immediately about 50 clients bailed as in their contract the work had to be done in the US and not sent out of country. They did not care. You're the last? Jesus Tittyfucking Christ, what is wrong with that company?
This company hired 50 Mexican tech consultants to move 250 clients from one system to another in 6 months. It took over 20 years to build those data structures. These are not just putting boxes on a dolly and moving to another storage. They are large data structures that have to be built. It was amusing watching that, along as a little insulting. Needless to say they failed as the other systems had none of the functionality. So yeah, pretty funny. You may as well move the St Patricks Cathedral across the street.
The people "running away from themselves", let's just say some past miserable coworkers that are not a good example of why to find a new job.

You have some knowledge @unodelacosa. (many thanks for the banter, it helps) Start a company and grab some of us to help. You sound thoughtful enough to run a company the way I imagine. Maybe silicon valley is better who knows. But yeah, I am a jaded cranky programmer that still likes the actual work. Opinions form from there I guess.
Bottom line we have no choice but to remain positive, always expect better things, and go for other things. Still trying to find a balance there.
This is what my last company did, the partnered with an Indian Outsource company and rebadged me to that company and outsourced me to do the same work I was doing for more money. So that did not site well with others and some people left. The work is not getting done and everyone has their head in the sand thinking another person will just pick it up. So even though I gripe I did basically get a new job. They will pay me a few grand to recommend tech people if anyone is interested. And you are like gold if you can speak English. On one of the questionairs it asked what languages I know. I am thinking computer, you now DOTNET, SQL SERVER/ C++. Nope, they mean do I speak ENGLISH. Oh boy, they have their work cut out for them.
