🌟🌟 Social 🌟🌟 PD Social Thread 2022-2025 v. Year of the Phenethylamine

You're the last? Jesus Tittyfucking Christ, what is wrong with that company?
LOL thanks for unraveling Unodelacosa. You make good points. But I still have to work through whatever barriers stop me from................ well I don't know just what as I do have an interesting job that pays. But I guess I could try for more money. This particular company was bought by a financial institution and thought they would let the 80 or so seasoned people go and send the work to China and India and pay $6.00 to untrained people. It is a sinking ship, a lot of clients so a SLOW sinking ship. Almost immediately about 50 clients bailed as in their contract the work had to be done in the US and not sent out of country. They did not care.

This company hired 50 Mexican tech consultants to move 250 clients from one system to another in 6 months. It took over 20 years to build those data structures. These are not just putting boxes on a dolly and moving to another storage. They are large data structures that have to be built. It was amusing watching that, along as a little insulting. Needless to say they failed as the other systems had none of the functionality. So yeah, pretty funny. You may as well move the St Patricks Cathedral across the street.

The people "running away from themselves", let's just say some past miserable coworkers that are not a good example of why to find a new job. :) Hey, when you are miserable you tend to take yourself with you. One guy left in 2020 and blamed Obama. lol

You have some knowledge @unodelacosa. (many thanks for the banter, it helps) Start a company and grab some of us to help. You sound thoughtful enough to run a company the way I imagine. Maybe silicon valley is better who knows. But yeah, I am a jaded cranky programmer that still likes the actual work. Opinions form from there I guess.

Bottom line we have no choice but to remain positive, always expect better things, and go for other things. Still trying to find a balance there.

This is what my last company did, the partnered with an Indian Outsource company and rebadged me to that company and outsourced me to do the same work I was doing for more money. So that did not site well with others and some people left. The work is not getting done and everyone has their head in the sand thinking another person will just pick it up. So even though I gripe I did basically get a new job. They will pay me a few grand to recommend tech people if anyone is interested. And you are like gold if you can speak English. On one of the questionairs it asked what languages I know. I am thinking computer, you now DOTNET, SQL SERVER/ C++. Nope, they mean do I speak ENGLISH. Oh boy, they have their work cut out for them.

Just letting everybody Know. I will be checking out of the internet. I will be jabberwocking my bluelight account.

All those I have met over the years kind regards. I apoglize for my toxic trolling. In the end the internet is not good for me and I am truly going to become a Amish folk with the impending collapse of cilivization as we know it.

I renounce all forms of technology.

I am also giving up on drugs.

Just know wherever I will be I will be doing just fine.

I hope people enjoyed the music i shared around here and will forgive me for my insanity.

I'm sad to hear that. I was wondering where you were recently.
I'd love to keep in touch, Trip.
Trolling aside, I think that you are a very kind, intelligent, and cool human.
PM me an email or phone number so we can keep in touch.

If you still want to be Jabberwockied in 72 hours, I will go ahead with it then.

I do too. I could feel the chuckle behind some posts. A valued member of BL in my mind.

I will say this. Life is a buffet. Grab the good food and compliment. Not the bad food and complain. The entropic principle is at play always and every stone on Earth pone day will tumble. Focus more on Nature, not human Nature. Humans can be bastards. So it is up to us to bring any Love. But Nature does balance. There is a justice high above the little human laws and I really do think it is about staying in the mud (society) and patiently helping people in little and large ways. This way this journey does not have to be done again and a bigger journey can begin. Humans can be idiots. But also genius as look, I can type to someone across the world. We are idiots as well as genius. Don't focus on the agendas a few people would be my advice in response to hiding out. You have a lot to give TZ, some of your angry posts were balance out by some posts that contained wisdom. Which is why as I always said I have faith in you and glad you walk the Earth at this time.

Hey TripSitter, I'm sorry to hear this. I always hoped you'd go back to not trolling the political forums and back to being your authentic self on here, because I remember your authentic self and it was pretty cool. :) But that said, the Internet can be pretty toxic and if that is what you need to do for yourself and your mental well-being, I support that.

I wish you well in all of your future endeavors. <3

The weirdest thing happened to me tonight that I can't figure out how to explain. I was driving home from band practice, listening to NPR. I was coming on a street I turn right on, called Riverside. As I got really close to it, the radio crackled and made a phasing sound and the robotic voice from google maps came on and said "in 100 feet, turn right on Riverside". Then it crackled and faded back to NPR. I was like what the fuck?? I stopped my car, looked at my phone. Google maps wasn't even open. Plus my car is 2004 and it doesn't even have the technology in it to connect to a device wirelessly (or even via auxillary cable). So I figured it had to be the person in front of me, somehow their directions app interacted with the FM radio waves or something in my car. I thought it was super weird, but kept driving, I figured that my my explanation. Really the only possible one.

Then about 5 minutes later, I was coming up to another road I was going to turn right on, and the radio crackled out again and Google maps voice was like "in 200 feet, turn right on XXX". This time, no one was in front of or behind me. It crackled back again. I checked my phone again. No maps app open.

It really freaked md out. I don't know how to explain it. Makes me feel like I'm in the Truman Show.

thanks guy will miss bluelight but its the best. I am getting rid of techonology this shit is the most dopamine addictive shit ever especially the internet. I hope to find peace without computers melting my brain

Good luck man, I hope you're able to find peace and fulfillment. <3

Some people (including relatives with old cars) have been using these things off Amazon that convert Bluetooth into a FM radio for older cars that don’t support Bluetooth.

You probably were hearing one of those in a nearby vehicle.

The second time that it happened seems odd though if there wasn’t anybody nearby.

Synchronicity at its best! That's why I'm such a fan of Carl Jung.

Our PD header image is breathing now. CSS is fun
I guess the way to do that was through inline style tags? … Specifically this part:

CSS:
.CFCdiv1 {
  animation: zoom 30s infinite;
  -webkit-animation: zoom 30s infinite;
}

.CFCdiv2 { transform: translate(-50%, -50%); }

@keyframes zoom {
    0% { background-size: 100%; }
   25% { background-size: 104%; }
   50% { background-size: 106%; }
   75% { background-size: 103%; }
  100% { background-size: 100%; }
}

What's rad is the effect on Ron English's site, popaganda.com

Yeah the zoom keyframes code specifically, is how I got it to breathe. The forum header is a frankenstein's monster of past iterations of admins tinkering. One of out old admins, CFC, was the first to try to make attractive forum headers, back before I was admin. He isn't a coder, really, and pulled snippets from here and there and did the thing that gets on my nerve (love you CFC ;)) of naming things after himself ("CFCdiv1"), just like the old coworker of mine that I was talking about recently. At some point I may reinvent the wheel so the code isn't such a mess but given this is a volunteer position... not something I feel like doing at this time.

Gonna check out the link, I am keen to see how other people are doing CSS animations. It's an area I haven't really touched on much.

As I suspected, the source code is a clusterfuck to try to figure out what's happening, and inspect element is about as bad.

Totally agreed as far as giving objects semantically useful names. I see things named "foo" and "bar" much too often in live code. Code examples are fine, that's just a generic name, but for live code, that shit is just lazyAF. Probably why it occurred that way though is the same reason you stated: not something they felt like doing given that it's a volunteer position.

I just meant for you to check out the effect on the Popaganda site. When I looked under the hood, the code is a fucking mess. However, I parsed through it a little in the inspector and I think I traced it back to an inline script tag that uses javascript to animate things. Fugly-ass way of doing it and not very mobile-friendly whatsoever. This is the code:

JavaScript:
<script>
  "use strict";

  var positionImage = function positionImage(imageEl) {
    var imageDimensions = imageEl.dataset.imageDimensions.split('x');
    var originalWidth = imageDimensions[0];
    var originalHeight = imageDimensions[1];
    var focalPoint = imageEl.dataset.imageFocalPoint.split(',');
    var focalPointX = focalPoint[0];
    var focalPointY = focalPoint[1];
    var parentNode = imageEl.parentNode;

    var scale = function () {
      var imageRatio = originalWidth / originalHeight;
      var parentClientSize = {
        height: parentNode.clientHeight,
        width: parentNode.clientWidth
      };
      var parentRatio = parentClientSize.width / parentClientSize.height;

      if (imageRatio > parentRatio) {
        return parentClientSize.height / originalHeight;
      }

      return parentClientSize.width / originalWidth;
    }();

    var getRelativeOffset = function getRelativeOffset() {
      var targetWidth = Math.ceil(originalWidth * scale);
      var targetHeight = Math.ceil(originalHeight * scale);
      var parentDimensionWidth = parentNode.offsetWidth;
      var parentDimensionHeight = parentNode.offsetHeight;
      var overflowWidth = targetWidth - parentDimensionWidth;
      var overflowHeight = targetHeight - parentDimensionHeight;
      var valueX;

      if (overflowWidth === 0) {
        valueX = focalPointX;
      } else {
        valueX = Math.max(Math.min(targetWidth * focalPointX - parentDimensionWidth * 0.5, overflowWidth), 0) / overflowWidth;
      }

      var valueY;

      if (overflowHeight === 0) {
        valueY = focalPointY;
      } else {
        valueY = Math.max(Math.min(targetHeight * focalPointY - parentDimensionHeight * 0.5, overflowHeight), 0) / overflowHeight;
      }

      return {
        valueX: valueX,
        valueY: valueY
      };
    };

    var relativeOffset = getRelativeOffset();
    var valueX = relativeOffset.valueX;
    var valueY = relativeOffset.valueY;
    imageEl.style.objectPosition = "".concat(valueX * 100, "% ").concat(valueY * 100, "%");
  };
</script>

And here is the background image:

EDIT: Actually maybe not. Regardless I think this is using JS to animate and not CSS. It looks like ReactJS loaded by SquareSpace and yet there is an instance of WordPress on the server as well. Go figure. What a bloated fucking mess of spaghetti vomit… Either way, my point is the effect reminds me of psychedelic drugs.

Agreed, and thanks for sharing your results of digging in. I wanted to implement something kinda like what he has on that site, but don't know enough yet about CSS animations to accomplish it. May be it's not possible with CSS alone (though the latest modern CSS specifications are so much more robust and powerful than in the past so you never know).
