I got some good ideas. Real good ideas. One in particular I know has no been thought of. I just want to get a patent now so that I can start asking people to invest with me. I know it will make a lot of money im sure of it. Its ... funny no one else has thought of it yet. So anyone know how I can get a patent? are there different kinds ? Do I need a prototype. Its along the lines of a herbal pill or something. (its not that) but its .. not a machine. Its a chemical. But its practical, and lots of people will want it. Its real too. Its really just something thats all around us but a new way of doing it. BWAHAHA

any advise? on patents?

I believe there are attorneys who are specialized in this, as well as services that you can go through to get your ideas to the respective patent office of your country.

Loved the link ;) VERY nice work.

Aaaaaand, good luck on the patent. Let us know what (if anything) happens in the future w/ that idea.

Yes I know how to google. I did know that before I posted. I just am having trouble understanding how to get the specific patent I want for free. I know there is a way to patent a general idea with out any product just a idea.... I guess im a bit slow or something. I know how to google questions. I was just hoping someone who had experience with doing it could give me some pointers so I don't screw my self.

It is a good idea. Excuse my spelling I have bad vision and im not good at using a labtop keyboard. I don't like this computer also sometimes im using my smart phone. Hard to spell check 100 percent of the time. I wish I knew proper grammar but I never payed attention in English. *shrug*

I just want someone who has done it to tell me how they did it. It kinda sucks when you ask for help and get sarcastic answers back. Really. I try to help on these forums, is it wrong to expect help back sometimes. Maybe someone can just close this thread I will figure it out on my own. Sorry for wasting your time bla.

you're mistaken. you can't patent an idea. you can only patent the implementation of an idea. and you're not going to be able to do it for free (at first). it's possible you're going to (more than) recoup the cost of the patent process from your idea but you're going to have to come to terms with paying some money up front. if you believe in your idea, that shouldn't be any hurdle.

there was nothing sarcastic about my answer. the tone of your op suggested you didn't want to put any effort into this process at all. if it was as easy as your post implies you seem to think it is, everybody would have a patent. newsflash! you're going to have to do some work to get to where you want to be...

Look around for patent lawyers-- often they will be able to offer a free introductory consultation. If not them, business incubators may be able to advise as well.

Getting a US patent, depending on the amount of work that you do yourself and how close your idea is to existing ideas (called 'prior art') can range from $15-$50K+. I'd recommend starting off with a preliminary patent search (Google's version works well enough)-- it'll give you an idea if your idea is novel, what sort of work has been patented in the field, and what patents are like. There's a specific sort of language that they're written in, kind of halfway between technical writing and legalese, that I for one loathe. But it is very beneficial to see what else is out there first, so that you can make sure that you can actually patent your idea, rather than paying some law office $10K to tell you that after they do a search.
