past experiences with opium / harm reduction tips

I've read the dangers of opium,and personally consider it a notch less dangerous than say uncut heroin
before i personally smoke or eat opium, does anyone have any stories, past experiences, or just general harm reduction tips for taking raw opium?

i'm well aware of opium withdrawal / opiate withdrawal in general and have prepared myself for it.
