I've dabbled with medicinal herbs like Scullcap, Valerian, Ashwangandha and Passion Flower (as well as Kratom, Kava, Coca but wouldn't necessarily recommend those for withdrawal since they can carry their own risks) for quite a while but recently had a renewed interest in Passion flower after wanting to switch from Valerian to something new for sleep purposes.
Not only, is it reputed to have anti-depressant and analgesic properties, it is supposedly as effective as oxezapam for anxiety and insomnia and speculated to help prevent oxidation of testosterone into estrogen, according to its' wikipedia pages: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passion_flower and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passiflora_incarnata
More importantly, it can be used as an adjunct therapy for reduced symptoms of withdrawal benzos, alcohol, opiates, nicotine and cannabis and more.
Also interesting, parts of the plant can contain very small amounts of harmala alkaloids which may potentiate psychedelics to some degree. May be dangerous for this purpose though.
It can be made as tea, tinctures or smoked or taken as a supplement in capsules.
I don't happen to see this one mentioned on much BL, nor on Erowid, as a resource for withdrawal. Perhaps because it isn't as "enjoyable" as other substances that can help withdrawal (i.e. Kratom, poppy tea, pharmaceuticals).
So does anyone have experience with passion flower, either to help ease withdrawal, insomnia, anxiety, depression or pain?
If it actually works, it seems like it'd be a natural option to help withdrawal, with considerably less side-effects and risk of new addictions forming than with pharmaceuticals. I just hope posting this here doesn't drive up demand and prices as a result :/
