passing out on mushrooms?

This has most definitely happened to me on mushrooms. Every time it has happened (four that I can remember, possibly more - I know how to handle them now) I have been smoking too much pot. The first time I was standing next to a stream and a small waterfall, listening to the water hit the ground below. A jet passed overhead, and the droning noise really affected me. With every breath, the waterfall sounds got quieter and quieter while the jet noise got more intense and overwhelming (by this point the jet was not even very close to me anymore).

My vision slowly faded to complete black and I became very startled. I couldnt see anything but an endless void and the jet's droning noise took total control of my thoughts, creating a very disorienting confusion. I remember stumbling around in the dark void, falling over, and then getting very very cold. At this point I thought that something very bad had happened, and soon regained consciousness.

The first words I uttered were "Holy shit I'm in the stream! What the fuck am I doing in the stream?!"

I was completely soaked, freezing cold, tripping very hard, and had to deal with the hassle that was my newly broken cell phone.

After doing some research I discovered that both THC and Psilocybin can lower one's blood pressure, and I already have abnormally low blood pressure, not to mention being really tall and lanky. I have passed out like this completely sober before, but it is certainly something that I must watch out for whenever doing mushrooms and marijuana.

Probably the scariest time was when I went into my dorm's hallway to use the bathroom and woke up on the floor, with the door in front of me slowly opening. I ducked into the bathroom, took the most confused piss of my life, looked at myself in the mirror (banging my head pretty good in the process), and stumbled back.

It only ever happens when I stand up too quickly or just stand in one place for too long. I always feel immediately better when I sit down and have a bit of water or something sweet. The way that I describe it is that its just like getting a headrush from standing up, except it just continues to get more overwhelming until I once again enter the black void. I have come to be pretty good at recognizing the feeling, and my friends are now totally accustomed to me just sitting down in the middle of any kind of trip activity. They would rather sit for a bit than worry that I might be endangering myself.

I hope this ramble helps you out on your future fungus fun!

[EDIT]

This also happened to a friend of mine on his second or third mush trip. We smoked a joint on some cliffs overlooking the ocean, and five minutes later he just went limp into the ground. I thought he was just messing with me and gave him some time to collect himself, but he full on passed the fuck out. He woke up with his face in the dirt and all kinds of crap on his tongue.

After passing out on shrooms the trip becomes extremely intense for me in a very disorienting way. I can't think properly and my body just feels foreign. When I have passed out sober I feel normal within 10 minutes, but the psychedelic influence most definitely makes passing out a very intimidating experience.

If you ever feel a little more lightheaded than you are used to, please don't think you can handle it. That is why I have passed out so many times - I convince myself that the lightheadedness is passing, when in fact I am just becoming more detached from reality. At the very least lean up against a wall or something, but I highly recommend just sitting down. You don't want to risk an injury in an altered state, trust me on that. A friend of mine got a concussion about 30 minutes after eating 4g dried shrooms and she had an absolutely hellish trip.

Thanks for the responses everyone. From what i've gathered from the experiences you have provided, it was simply a case of too many drugs, not enough sleep, and no food. Looking back on it, I can't see how I could have been so stupid, but I've chalked it up to a lesson learned. I haven't done shrooms since that occasion, but as I am going to jamaica in Oct, where they are LEGAL, I'll have another test run to see what happens. I'll be sure to let you know how my next experiment goes!

Something that nobody ever seems to bring up is contamination. If any of you have ever grown mushrooms, you have probably had *something* contaminate at some point. Obviously, you throw mushrooms from contaminated substrate out.

However, as we all know, profitmongering whores will often put the public's safety at risk in order to make a quick buck. I am very concerned about the amount of mushrooms in circulation that coudl have been grown on moldy-ass substrate, or something run through with a harmful bacteria. Some types of molds and whatnot produce serious toxins. When people talk about having experiences like that, I think about this.

A lot of it is probably just bad trips and such, but some of it... i dunno.

a kid I know passed out while climbing up a set of stairs while on mushrooms. Fell backwards, cracked his jaw, and broke his collarbone. Consider yourself lucky, this isn't an uncommon phenominom, i'd just lay off the cubes. <munch munch munch>

double passout

I guess I should post my story. I have taken shrooms about 5 times now, and the most recent time, about 4 days ago, I passed out twice. The first and second time, i took 2 grams, the 3rd and 4th time i took 3.5 grams. The 5th and most recent time, I took mostly caps, about 2.3 grams in a milk shake. After about 15-30 minutes I felt the strong urge to throw up so I ran to the bathroom and then I woke up on the floor. My friends said i had just fallen down for a second. So I sat back up and stayed sitting for a minute and after about 5-7 minutes, I passed out again. both times were only like, 5 seconds.

The difference with my story seems to be that I have never smoked weed, or done any other drug. I don't even drink caffeine or alcohol. I had a full meal roughly an hour before. I had a full nights sleep the night before. The trip hadn't fully started and I know i hadn't "forgot" to breath. The second time wasn't from the headrush of getting up because I stayed sitting down from the fear of that. also, my friends told me the second time I passed out my eyes stayed open the whole time and my leg twitched once. After the passout, I had a bad trip because I couldn't grasp the fact that I had taken drugs.

Anyway, I thought I should show that I don't believe weed, food, sleep, or alcohol have to play a role in passing out while on shrooms. Sometimes, it just happens.

Chemical Explanation

Hey, it happened to me too, two days ago, but I knew about it since before.

In a book called "The Doors of Perception" written by Aldous Huxley it explains why this might happen. (The doors got their name from this book)

LSD, Mexican Cactus and Mushrooms make your body release a chemical which stops glucose (sugar) from getting to your brain, this chemical is already in your body.

Our brain has this so called "reducing valve" which stops our brain from fully working, when you are on shroom you lose your ego, and you see stuff as it is, rather as what its meant to be, this is caused by the sugar not getting there as it opens some parts of your brain that are not opened normally.

Weed as described by -snip- can exaggerate the effect of the mushrooms really bad and make it come back when its gone, therefore releasing the chemical big time, normally before you pass out you should feel your circulation and a weird thing coming from your neck going through your body.

If this happens, your brain opens up and as its so powerful it can feel the whole universe, as we are all connected by atoms (see quantum entanglement) this cause your body to pass out and your heartbeat to increse, consequently sweat a lot! and get downloaded as I'm sure you realise every time you wake up you see stuff in slow motion, as is too much information at once. 8o

Sadly our brain functioning normally forgets what we felt and saw in this experience although we can grab a bit out of it and remember some bits, you can deffinitely see stuff differently.

The only problem I have now is that it seems that if i smoke weed again, the effect comes back to me and start to feel my whole body flowing with this chemical, I realised that if i put my hand in my neck it stops it form coming out.

although I still fell i was gonna faint, hopefully I didn't and now im here trying to find why it happened again, is it the mushrooms effect tht can come back for weeks?

But I've read people cant smoke never again... im scared too, cause this passing out might kill you?

Aldous wrote about blood sugar LONG before we knew about psychedelic drugs' effect on serotonin receptors in the brain...

Hmmm... ran around all night and day, up for maybe 20 hours, were all kneeling around the fire, lsd is already kind of wearing off, one buddy stands up in a flash...

falls straight down like just tipped over right flat on his back, knocked the wind out of him and he was defiently unconsious for up to thirty seconds but when he came to he was pretty immediately ok and made a point of letting everyone know he was fine ASAP.

scared the BANANAS out of us though, we were a an hour and a half LSD influenced car ride away from any hospitals!

My story goes like this... The first time I ever took mushrooms was with a buddy at his house. About two hours into the trip I was standing in his parents room watching my friends play on the computer. Suddenly I got a ringing in my ears, I turn, look at myself in the mirror and walked out of the room as my vision got darker by the second. Next thing I know I wake up on the ground holding a piece of an antique table that was in the middle of the room I stumbled into. This as you can imagine changed the trip drasticaly, what were we going to tell his parents, what to do now about the broken table? Funny thing was I kept re-playing the scene in my head and doing things differently to avoid this incident, these thoughts were so life like I would begin to think that nothing ever happened. Then I'd look at my buddy standing over the table shaking his head, (snap) oh yeah that did really happen.

It never happened to me personally but it happened to two different friends of mine when I was tripping with them. The first time was only my third mushroom trip and we were about to leave to another place when we were all standing in the hall way and he suddently turned green (although in reality probably just pale) and fell over backwards. When he regained conciousness we noticed a 15 cm long, 3 cm wide open rip in the back of his head, bleeding quite badly. We took him to the hospital and spent three hours tripping there waiting for him to be treated. By that time he was fine again and they glued (really!) his head back together and it was all fine. We did mushrooms again 3 days later together, and then 14 days later again.. crazy summer.

The other time was two years later after much more tripping experience with another friend. She passed out sitting luckely, but had her eyes rolled away and made this chocking gurgling creepy sound while shaking her right arm. A bit more terrifying to sit right next to but also she was fixed within 30 minutes.

This all leads me to believe its a somewhat common possible side effect, I guess pay attention to how stable you feel on shrooms and sit down in time if you feel you have to, that'll prevent things like in my first anecdote, because really, tripping in a hospital isn't quite that fun.
