Not sure where this thread would go, but maybe somebody can answer this question. I have passed out a few times after taking Vicotin and Oxycodone. when it has happen, I normally start to feel a huge sense of wanting to vomit, I stand up ,and boom,I wake up in a puddle vomit. This last time i called my dr. and he changed my script to tramadol. I take the prescribe amount. and this doesnt happen often. just kinda of curious of why it happens. ? thanks

opiates are CNS depressants like alcohol or Xanax, when people take too much for their own tolerance, the body doesn't tolerate it and purges itself with vomiting. The sleep comes from it being a CNS depressant. You would probably be fine if you took half the dosage you were prescribed.

Im not actually sleeping, I faint. (lasting maybe a few minutes). What really sucks is after all this happens, im still in pain. go figure!!!

Are you eating enough and getting enough fluid? You could be passing out due to not doing and meds usually come on stronger when you've not eaten and are dehydrated. The nausea is very common in such circumstances.

If you're having these side effect is seems that you're dose is just to high. If you're feeling nausea, and especially if you're passing out the amount you're taking is very likely too high for your tolerance. You may just be more sensitive to opiates than most people.

Also helps if you are able to lay down when you first take the medicine.

getting nauseous or physically sick from opiates usually happens when the dose is too high. as was previously mentioned, try half of your prescribed dose and see how that does you. the negative effects you are experiencing are far from safe- especially if you are alone when you dose. the odds of asphyxiation during an episode like this are not in your favor.

like another previous poster suggested- it could be due to other factors such as your diet. fainting usually occurs from being dehydrated and//or malnourished. low blood sugar levels could also be the culprit. all of these things can also lead to feeling nauseous as well. adding opiates on top of any of these conditions is just asking for trouble. try dosing with a snack or meal, it could help. try to make sure you are getting atleast some essential substance in your system before dosing and have a glass of water or juice along with it.

you mentioned that after these episodes you are still in pain (which would hint that your dose isn't higher than need be and the issue is due to something else). however, maybe you are being prescribed the wrong medication(s) entirely. may i ask what it is you are prescribed these meds for and what exactly your regimen consists of?

with the fainting thing, i used to eat horribly and my blood sugar was always really high or really low, i would get headrushes and faint alot. try eating more complex carbs aswell as taking a smaller dose.

this ever happen when your not on any drugs?

just noticed that someone else said pretty much the same thing

The first time i was prescribed oxycodone was after I had a breast reduction surgery. I didnt have much problems then. I had to go back to have a second surgery (I didnt heal fast enough) thats when i ran into the problems. Thank goodness when I passed out/fainted somebody was around me. This time around I have a abcess tooth, and I passed put the first day i was started to take it. The only problem that i have is that antibotics dont work as fast as they should, which makes pain intoleable for just IB or Tylenol. Everytime I have had to take Vicodin or oxydocone I am on antibotics, which I have to be prescribe higher doses each time. Thank you all to the helpful posts:)

Eureka!! today when i was at the dr, he explained that the vicodin causes the nausea. and the nausea caused me to faint. Also the vicodin caused my blood pressure to drop. In other words, My blood pressure just cant handle side effects of Vicadin (lower b/p and nausea)

Wow, well atleast you've got to the bottom of it :) Good to hear!
The thing to do would be to take an Antiemetic (Diphenhydramine / Promethazine etc.) and that should sort it out ;)

could blood pressure be involved? standing up too fast causes people to faint or almost faint all the time
