Opioids Papaver Somniferum Plants

I'm going green...my friend has put a lot of time and energy into looking into growing Poppy plants. Does anyone know how many opiates are in one pod? (Like 1 pod= 10 hydrocodone) My friend doesn't know how much to dose, and doesn't want his parents to find him dead in the kitchen with a coffee grinder and a suspicious looking plant lying beside of him. The alkaloid content varies so much that's it's impossible to tell him the "ideal" dose, also his tolerance and what else he might be using makes a big difference, the best advise i can give you/him is to start low and simply work your way up slowly. Remember you can always take more, but never less than you already took...

We can't tell you. Poppy preparations (excluding opium) are highly variable and almost always taste like shit. In addition there are various phenotypes of poppy that contain various levels of the major opium alkaloids, and the alkaloid level is dependent on harvest conditions and time. Start low and work your way up as STEROIDS4kids says. There can be serious variation between batches.

A ballpark figure I have heard is something like 10 to 50mg of morphine base per large poppy head. That's bound to vary, however.

My advice, if you have access to a secluded field of P.somniferum where nobody is inspecting them, is to just take a few days and prepare opium, then destroy the crop. Poppy pod/seed tea is pretty worthless, and even if the opium you harvest is inactive, it still smells nice.

Th average pod contains 5-12% Morphine by weight, along with small amounts of codeine, thebaine, papaverine etc. Since pods can greatly vary in size, weight an alkaloid content the only real estimate would be made based on total weight of the extracted latex. Keep in mind that there are various forms of Papaver Somniferum, bred for different purposes. Some contain higher amounts of morphine and some contain barely a trace of it.

So say you have 10grams of raw latex(opium) this would yield roughly .5g-1.2g of morphine.

Pods take like a few hours to kick in fully; if you only want 1 hour then dose more you could be in for some bad news

Opium contains 5-20% morphine by weight - not poppy pods.

This question has been answered - your "friend" needs to be careful and titrate upwards. Remeber, cultivating and using poppies is illegal in many places.
