Hi everyone,
I’ve been active here for a while sharing my experience coming off paliperidone injections (Invega/Xeplion). I took around 10 injections and went through the full recovery process. It wasn’t easy, but over time I recovered significantly.
I want to share two things:
1) Reality of paliperidone (from experience)
For me, the hardest parts were:
- emotional blunting / anhedonia
- feeling disconnected
- slow recovery timeline
From what I’ve seen here, recovery can take months to years, but improvement does happen. I personally saw major improvements in the second year.
2) New direction in treatment (important)
There’s a newer medication called Cobenfy (xanomeline + trospium) that works differently from traditional antipsychotics.
Instead of blocking dopamine like paliperidone, it targets muscarinic receptors (M1/M4). That means:
- potentially fewer dopamine-related side effects
- different approach to treating symptoms
Important: I’m not on this medication myself and I’m not telling anyone to switch. Just sharing that alternatives are starting to exist.
---
My view:
People should be fully aware of:
- the trade-offs of dopamine-blocking medications
- the recovery timeline if they come off
- and the fact that newer approaches are being developed
---
If anyone here has:
- tried Cobenfy
- or discussed it with their doctor
would be really useful to hear your experience.
Stay strong everyone. Recovery is real, even if it’s slow.
