Pain Medication

Well then I'm going to talk to him on monday when i go in to talk to him about some blood test results. I can't be taking so many pills all the time it drives me nuts. I mean the morphine was something he recently added adn I'm not even sure if I like it yet or not.

Pillpopper, during that year did you ever try and get something else from him for your pain? Was he just dead set on only giving you Perc 5's & nothing else? If you don't mind me asking what is wrong with you that your on chronic pain meds? This is all from my regular dr. i don't go to a pian management doc or anything. I mean i get 120+ 10mg Percs and the Morphine ER's & it's enough to "curb" my pain if I pop all the pills im supposed to. Its just ALOT of pills to take all of the time!

Thank you to everyone who ahs responded to this thread. I greatly appreciate it. I really just want to take less pills, I don't want something more "abusable" im just tired of having to take so many pills so often. I don't think it's to much to ask for me to ask for less pills with the same amount of "drugs" so to say.
Thoracic nerve impingement and constant muscle spasms. I have DDD in my mid back and Radiopathies in my lumbar and mid back

i told him 20mg was not enough, so he put me on the fent patch, then switched it to every 48 hours. I've been on the patch for 7 months now. And get 100 oxyir 5mgs for bt pain every 6 weeks or so

I have Chrohns Disease and I wouldn't wish this crap on anybody, Fent patches were something I was very interested in also because when I have really bad attacks i throw up every 3-5 min. for hours and hours at a time. Sometimes over 24 hours of constant throwing up with blood and ill end up in the hospital becaue ill need fluids so bad. But when that happens im in so much pain and I can' swallow pills because they come RIGHT back up. I thought the best answer to this would be patches and is something I would really like to talk to him about without seeming like a drug seeker. It just makes sense because most the time I get hospitalized is for that exact reason. Extreme stomach pains and so much vomiting I can't do anything about it. I've actually IV'd myself H before because I didn't want to pay another hospital bill and I was desperate for pain relief (this was before I had insurance & they figured out what was wrong with me) I really think this is more than good enough reason to ask for patches when I can't swallow my pills whenever i get a really bad episode. I'd be happy with your current regime & I think it would definitely do a good job at keeping my life normal. Ive almost lost my job and house because of all of this crap. Im only 23 yrs old and I built up alot in life to get what I have only to start to lose it all to a disease that they can't cure :-(

Honestly that is pretty decent advice. I just don't want to sound like im looking for drugs or I don't appreciate how much meds he already trusts me with. I mean i'm grateful i have a doc who cares because a lot of people don't. A lot of people wouldn't take a 23 yr old seriously but he's seen my medical backround, seen me in the hospital, and seems to understand what i'm going through isn't something i'd ever want. It's hard to find a good compassionate MD these days who's willing to help you out with narcotics. Every doc nowadays is way to afraid of getting in trouble for writing these kind of scripts because of our government in the United States. It really sucks to see how hard it is for people who really need pain pills to get them because of all the people out there who don't need them trying to trick dr's into giving them out. Now we have a bunch of scared dr's who don't want to write scripts for anything that could remotely be abusable. I just feel lucky and don't want to burn any bridges. I guess im just going to go in and have a really talk with him from my point of view and try and figure out what we can do from there. Hopefully the worst thing that could happen is he tells me no.

If you want to get fent patches i wouldnt say, what about fentanyl?

I would just tell him the truth, and say every other week or so you have violent non stop throwing up fits, and cant swallow your pills, and is there anything not in pill form?

Yeah thats basically what I was going to do. I'm not going to ask for anything by name, I never have or will. I mean I told him one day I was tired of taking spills so many times a day and isn't there something constant thats time release I wouldn't have to take so many times and that's how I ended up with Morphine ER to take with my Percocets. He even upped my Percocet script at the same time. Thought that was weird. Gave me Morphine plus doubled my Percs and changed the percs to "Breakthrough" pain meds. I just want relief and less pills. I don't care what he gives me as I really don't abuse my meds. I generally take LESS than im prescribed.

Seems like your question has been answered at this point; side with honesty. Sorry to hear about the Crohn's. I have a good friend with the same condition and he genuinely suffers from it's debilitating symptoms. I don't have Crohn's Disease, but I have IBS, have always had a terrible stomach and I experience nausea quite often, so I can relate.
