First, I am in no way asking for a "contact" or anything
Hello, this is my first post here. I am turning 23 in a few months and want some advice from people who are currently in, or know about pain management.
I've been hurt so many times over my young life I can barely even remember them all. Anyway, when I was 17 I had shoulder surgery due to a big accident that occured before I was a teen. Since then, I've basically been in pain from the surgery. I am a avid runner and love to stay in shape and go to the gym, but the pain in my shoulder usually prevents me from doing what I want to do, inside and outside of the gym. I keep the shoulder strong with "band" exercises and light weight work, but the pain lingers. I had surgery preformed by one of the best shoulder docs in NJ and have been back to him numerous times (with numerous MRI's) to talk to him about the pain, but I always leave the office with "take it easy, lift light, dont lift above the head, take tylenol/advil/aleve, or you can try physical therapy again" (which I have tried and successfully finished on my shoulder more than once). I even went as far as going out and buying a top of the line tempurpedic mattress to relieve any pressure points I may have while sleeping - but nothing works
What I am really asking is I want to see a pain management doctor but I feel like my parents (yes I still live at home) wouldn't understand. I also feel like the doctors may think I am just trying to get high or sell medication. Does anyone have any information for me on this subject? Would it be stupid to start a medication routine at my age? Thanks..
