Oxytocin helps soldiers like each other and hate the enemy

I am a combat veteran. This article is interesting to me but it doesn't explain the tight bonds before and after a combat experience. Bottom line is that we are all brothers looking out for each other. The bonds are formed quickly and they last for life.

If I was in trouble, I could call my on my brothers for help and I know they would be here. We've been home and out of the service for several years but the bond is still there.

maybe these other articles were more interesting to me though, because I realized when I release oxytocin now, and I also realized how important it us... rather than something about soldiers, which really doesn't impact me at all

Interesting and all, but why is this in Ecstasy discussion? Is Oxytocin in Ecstasy?

MDMA causes the release of oxytocin and the oxytocin is thought to be behind the pro-social empathogen-entactogen effect of MDMA, compared with other stimulants such as amphetamine, which do not cause oxytocin release. So yeah, sort of relevant, the same way that serotonin, etc is discussed here.

Also, about the article: Thanks for posting, I haven't heard of that one. Human oxytocin research is exploding now. This fits with rat research, which shows that oxytocin is behind maternal aggression. Rats mothers given oxytocin are more likely to attack and intruder into their cage. Although blocking oxytocin also increases maternal aggression, but it depends on what part of the brain.

Anyway, off to find the original article to find out what they did and how big the actual effect was.
