I think you misread the OP. No one is worried about "chemical reactions" or organ damage.

We are just discussing how the decongestant properties (vasoconstriction) of Afrin lower the amount of drug absorbed in the nose.

He was probably responding to the OP from 2010, they were concerned about potential interactions.

Could someone recommend the best form of phenylephrine to come off afrin? I would imagine it's some type of sudafed, but I don't want to be drowsy or have any other effects and/or side effects, if possible. Thanks!

Phenylephrine is phenylephrine no matter who brands it. There is no best form.

For myself phenylephrine is useless as a decongestant. Find something with pseudoephedrine instead. If you're in the US you need to ask the pharmacist, they keep all of the pseudoephedrine behind the counter. Or do the one nostril trick coolwhip mentioned a few posts up.
