OxyContin that's harder to abuse? FDA debates new version

If this really happens all the Oxy addicts will just turn to abusing H and getting in deeper. Oxys are 80$ a pill here at times and plenty of people have already crossed over.

But I have problems with that definition too, so if hypothetically a 100lb pile of pure heroin magically appeared in someone's garage and they start using it every day they would not be addicted because there is no negative shit involved?

The psychological community made the power grab of psychological addiction when traditionally only physical addiction was considered. Then to give it any meaning at all they quantified it with the negative effects on your life versus your continued use. But by that standard someone who is really addicted could be said not to be just because it has no or minimal negative effects on them.

So like a pod tea addict whose costs are minimal and faces realistically no legal consequences could be said not to be addicted? Even if they are seeking treatment? Its weird.
 
I wish they'd quit making oxy's. A fuckin pill head broke in my house and stole my ps3 on saturday along with all my games. The dumbass called me right before he did it. Whats bad is i knew this guy for 8 years. Called me wanting to chill and smoke, drink whatever. Told him i was going to Chucks and he said thats cool, hit me up when you get back and ill come chill. Got back home and ps3's gone. SO, i called him up and threaten his life. He denied it completely. Then i told him fuck it whore i'm just gonna call the police and give em your name and shit and where they can pick you up. He quickly decided he may know who did it. He shifted the blame on another old friend i haven't spoke to in a couple years. So, I told him i dont give a fuck if you dad took it or whoever, they're getting fucked up and we we're fittin to ride. He called back and said drew(completely innocent) took it and said please don't come after him or call the cops, and he'd give it back to me. Pussy nigga dropped it befind mcdonald' and took off before i could catch him. He texted me and told me he forgot to put my phone in the bag. I have a palm 855 and i told him if i didn't have it or 400 in my mailbox by the morning i was going to take the bag with his prints to the detective, which i wasn't going to do, just a scare tactic. Well when i woke up there was my cell phone and a 100 in the mailbox.

I got all my shit back. This guy was liked by many people. Now many people would just like to stomp his ass. I got people and now he has no trust with any of them and if any of them see him its on, cuz he wont be where i will be, prolly ever.

if it wasnt oxy, it'd be another opiate that he was stealing your shit to get money for

oxy has helped a lot of people. you want them to just stop making it? well then they'd be prescribed other pills. you want no opiate pills to be made? you'll NEVER eradicate opium, and people NEED these opiates sometimes, and surprise surprise not all addicts are bad people or even do bad things
 
Last two posts, spot on. You've said all there is to say, I just want to give you guys a "+1." We can't blame a pill for people's actions. We have to blame people for their actions, its their choice to use the pill (or other drug) in the first place, and the pill doesn't tell them to rob people or kill people, the person decides to do that to. Personal responsibility guys...

What? GD... $70. Are you for real? I would complain about anything over $30.. and even $30 is expensive to me. $25 is more like it. I mean... you gotta be a junkie to pay that much. That's awful.

Also I knew this guy who would be set for a good 12 hours on one 80mg insufflated. And of course, as stated before, not all addicts steal shit. Some of them are smart enough to figure out how to remain functional. I hate it when people try to tell me that everyone will end up in the same place. Not everyone does. Some people recover, and some people can manage it for their entire lives. I think it's more of a personality thing than a drug thing. Who's to say that jerk wouldn't have tried to steal your ps3 if he were addicted to video games instead of opiods? Or maybe if he was just the kind of person who didn't respect the idea of personal property and would have stolen from you no matter what his deal is? Have you ever met someone who was just an a-hole drugs or not?

It's just my opinion, but I think this issue wouldn't even be an issue if there wasn't such a restriction placed on anything opiate. People like them. That's not going to change unless we go through some crazy nazi ass genetic reassignment process and remove any genes which could cause people to enjoy them. It seems evident to me that a large reason for making them illegal is to give the drug companies a strangle hold on the market. Why would anyone waste their time to go to the doctor and then the pharmacy if they could grow their own poppies, and if they are smart enough synthesize their own oxycodone, or whatever. Although if they did legalize opium they would probably even keep most of the population because opiates already have such a nasty stigma and the general public seems to think that only trained doctors know anything. But I guess they would lose percentages of their billion dollar industry... and that's not gonna go well with the shareholders. :O

^ Opium poppies are completely legal in the UK, yet I know no one who grows them to procure opium. Most people are reliant on pharmaceuticals prescribed by their physicians.

Of course they are. I don't know. There are many debates which could flare for eternity, but I think some good points were raised in this thread. Mostly, the idea that making these pills "impossible" to inject hurts more people than it helps. I personally believe that you can take the same logic to the bigger picture, which is that the war on drugs hurts more than it helps. I think most of the violence surrounding drugs of any kind, not just opiates/opioids, has to do with the fact that they are illegal and harder to get a hold of. How many addicts do you think would be out in the street killing or robbing people for a fix if they could make their own supply at home or get them at a reasonable price? Of course there will always be animals, and some drugs are more dangerous than others(my opinion), but wouldn't it make more sense to just legalize the substance and focus on the violence? Say... heroin is legal, but double the penalty for any violent crime involving it? Of course it's never that simple, but I'm just spitting out ideas.

Of course the topic of this thread is increased tamper resistant oxycontin pills, not the drug war, so I'm not trying to hijack the thread. But I think it's the same thing. It all comes back to "them" telling "us" what to do. Control. "We want you to submit to our way of life and be part of our system, and we don't care who gets hurt in the process as long as it isn't our wallets." And of course bad PR hurts the wallet. So... let's make sure we can say we did everything in our power to stop people from abusing a pill we kinda sorta were counting on being abused in the first place, so we can have our cake and eat it too. (<-- speculation)
