Hey Peeps,

Iv just had my 1st dose of methadone - 40mg (Starting off dose,to come off heroin), consumed 2 1/2 hours ago

I have also been taking oxycontin for pain management for months now and would like to take some!

My Question is will the methadone act as a blocker at this shorter amount???

Iv heard methadone can act as an opiate blocker for 24h after ingestion, Is this true???

Any Answers?

Be careful with methadone, it can take hours and hours before you peak. People redosing a couple hours after they dose their methadone because they can't wait for it to kick in, has let to plenty of ODs.

That being said, 40mg shouldn't block your dose. In my experience you start getting partial attentuation around 60mg.

Im not going to be re-dosing more methadone

I'll be taking fair amounts of Oxycontin.

Just so you know I have a pretty high tolerance of oxy's and most other opiates.

Cheers Coolwhip :D

Methadone can act as a blocker of the opiate receptors, but it is dependent on dosage, which is something that's hard to say for 100% certain. For some people, the "blockade effect" doesn't start to manifest itself until 70+mg of methadone. However, for people without an opiate tolerance or with a low opiate tolerance, 70mg methadone is a dangerously high dose and should not be taken.

Long story short, its hard to tell if your oxycodone (OxyContin) will be blocked by the methadone in your system, or it could be partially blocked by the methadone and you may feel only some of the oxycodone. I don't know what your opiate tolerance and experience is like, but be careful mixing these two, as mixing an opiate with another opiate can and will cause synergistic effects and could result in a dangerous situation.

Methadone also has a long half-life which is something to keep in mind. If you're experiencing fine pain relief from the methadone you took, I would just wait until tomorrow to take your usual OxyContin dosage, that way you're safe and not wasting your pain medication.

With so many answers, shouldn't this have remained on Advanced? ;)

I'm on around 200mg Oxy/day habit...excluding any H....which I'm presently coming off. Dont have a choice as for taking my meth, as im having to go to clinic every day atm.

Thanks for the reply NeighborhoodThreat

If you just started MMT, I would think it would be your best bet to refrain from taking any oxycontin.. It just defeats the entire purpose of being on MMT in the first place. I'm sorry, I guess I am just confused as to why you got on methadone to get off of heroin, but are continuing to take oxycontin? If recovery is your true goal, this is surely not going to help in any way. If pain relief is your only goal, why wouldn't you just use the oxy in lieu of using heroin?

I guess I'm just confused about your situation and goals. Wouldn't continuing to take oxycontin make you fail the urine screens at the clinic?

To be honest, its all new to me. I started my methadone programme on fri, but Im still recovering from spiral fractures to my fibula & tibia I sustained in December. Its been a strange weekend, I can tell you that! The meth is a substitute for heroin and the oxys are for pain during physiotherapy sessions. I'll learn more next week....
