I'm having very minor surgery for cataracts in 2 weeks. They will be giving me fentanyl and versed for the surgery. You are mot asleep, yoire awake but sedated. I have been taking 60 mg oxycodone everyday for a few years. I can't even last 10 hours without withdrawal. I break 30's into four pieces and take one of the 1/4 every few hours all day. Will there be a bad interaction taking this?? I'm very nervous and don't know what to do. I really don't wanna ask the dr. This addiction is my biggest secret and I don't want to discuss it with anyone!! I can take less of the oxy on the day of surgery but if I take too low of dose I worry what effect my withdrawal will have during surgery. Any info is greatly appreciated!!!!

this is something that is very important to be completely honest with the doctor about it will be critical to your care in pre and post op surgery

if you are not honest with your dr, it could be very very vary bad for you..... you may get f*cked cuz i know they give different dosages to opiod dependant patients.....

unless you are in a small town, guaranteed your dr has heard and seen much worse.

if you live in a small town, move.

Is he familiar with your health history or your regular doctor? I think it is important for you to let him know what's up. Also, maybe just cut your dose way down on that day. You might be surprised how little of your regular dose you can take and still avoid withdrawals..it doesn't take your full dose, only a percentage of it. If he doesn't know your history well maybe just tell him you take the oxy for an old injury (maybe not mentioning that there is no prescription? Let him assume there is?) Also, I would just make sure that if you are not affected enough by the drugs when they begin the surgery jusy let him know. Its not meant to knock you out and if you still feel really conscious of everything and like you need more just say hey I'm still pretty with it, should I still be feeling this "with it". Those meds affect everyone differently so it wouldn't be too unusual for him to have to give you some more. When my son was young and had never taken any drugs or meds and was having a procedure done they had to redose him several times to get him in that state.it was a much higher dose than usual for his age and body weight (and he was way to young to have any kind of tolerance) it just affects some people differently.

But it is always best and safest to be honest with a doc about things like this.

What everyone else says, OP. In addition, when titrating your fentanyl and versed dosage, the doctors take into account your body weight and all other drugs you're taking. You do NOT want to be in unexpected agony during a cataract procedure.

I don't think he will go into agony per se..the fent and versed is more to relax and put one into that "twilight sleep". If he were to start experiencing any discomfort at all it would take about 10 seconds for the doc to inject a bit more into his IV and for it to take effect...which he would do the second he began to see OP was experiencing any discomfort.

His eye will be numbed up..it will not be painful. The injection to numb his eye is a little uncomfortable and "scary" for some...hence the fent and versed.
