oxycodone - causing bags under eyes

Hello everyone,

I've read pages from this site here and there for years and finally joined. I hope this doesn't sound too lame, but I couldn't find an answer anywhere else. If this has in fact been answered, or I shouldn't be asking this here, my apologies.

I have been taking 60 - 120 mgs of oxycodone a day orally. I have developed these bags/black circles under my eyes, and my eyes look slightly swollen. Even with adequate sleep they seem to stick. Any information or fixes would be greatly appreciated. (If anyone knows anything that could help by tomorrow morning they would be my hero =D)
-Thanks

No one has ever tried to solve this?

For me oxycodone disturbs my sleep, perhaps you should try taking your dose early in the day at least 4-6 hours before bed time to avoid any issues with this. Are you taking an IR or ER formulation?

If you can, skip days between doses to see if it helps, or take a break all together. I understand at your dose this may not be possible but its worth a try.

Remember, just because you're sleeping doesn't always mean you're getting all the proper sleep you need. Aside from that, opiates like oxycodone can cause "puffy eyes" sometimes. Maybe you're one of the people that are susceptible to that side effect.

What time do you usualy take oxy?
If you take it in the few hours before going to bed/just before going to bed, this is to be expected. I don't know your tolerance but I'm guessing you usually take nodding doses, which would prevent you from actually getting sufficient, healthy sleep. Have you noticed that if you go to bed still under the effects of opiates your sleep will be extremely interrupted? (even though this probably won't bother you like it would were you sober)
This is just the result of sleep deprivation. Try to make sure you're not still high when you go to sleep. And, well, make-up does wonders in hiding those :\

I don't really think there's much you can do about your eyes, unfortunately. When we used opiates everyday, i was pale and had baggie eyes, amongst other things. Your body can't fully recover and replenish if you use everyday, that's why most drug addicts have a certain 'look' about them. Abstinence, food, sleep.

I was never an 'everyday user' but when I did use I used large quantities. 2 months later and I still look and feel shit! Pale complexion, baggy eyes and disturbed sleep.

Sobriety has not brought me many positives this far apart from the return of my appetite.

^You can work on it though. As I mentioned, I now always make sure I'm not experiencing the opiate's effects before trying to sleep, and honestly I've been sleeping so much better. I look healthier too, less pale, less bags, you really wouldn't guess I've got a heroin habit.
It's important to pay extra attention to yourself and your health if you're an opiate user, be sure to continue to go outside, get exercise, etc.

How?

I eat extremely healthily, I'm at work everyday for 8 1/2 hours, I also ride my bicycle 10 miles each day.

The healthy body healthy mind thing has never really worked for me even when I was clean before my Benzo & Opiate abuse, although I did look healthier.

Well when I first started using opiates more heavily I neglected myself completely, I mean I did shower daily but that was really the most I did to take care of myself. I stopped going outside, stopped exercising entirely, stopped eating well, stopped sleeping mostly. I looked like hell and felt like hell. As I said, if you make it a point of getting the right kind of sleep that'll go a very long way already. Plus getting enough sunlight and stuff. I've noticed a drastic improvement.

Good quality sleep is not something I choose not to have, it just does not happen.

Like I said, every other aspect that people tell me to follow, I follow. Good diet, well hydrated, exercise, going to bed at similar times and getting up at similar times etc etc

Well as I asked the OP, what time of the day do you take opiates?
Honestly if you're taking any drugs to help you sleep/that will be active while you sleep that's probably why you're not getting good quality sleep.

I've actually got a physical problem that makes me insomniac as my vagus nerve is crushed between my cervicals. So I get what it is not to sleep well. But being careful re. when you take drugs makes a huge difference. Also when you exercise during the day (not good to exercise in the few hours before going to bed).

I dunno. Maybe I'm just lucky but I mean, I'm a daily heroin user, even IV user now, and I look like a perfectly healthy person really just by following all the stuff I mentioned.

Maybe you are lucky.

I don't take any substances whatsoever for any reasons, I have been sober from Benzos & Opiates for nearly 2 months, I smoked cannabis every day for 13 years and since I gave up 6 years ago my sleep has never been that solid unfortunately.

I think the bags just come with the territory. though my body handled daily h usage very well. I could shit once a day if I timed my morning dose right, ate 2-3 meals a day, showered daily, shaved my face daily, got hair cuts, worked out 3-5 times a week. but I had them bags no matter what. I would sleep 6 or so hours a night as well, wake up rested and feeling great.

It makes a lot of sense that being under the effects of opiates during sleep contributes to this. I read that blood pooling under the eyes can play a role in this as well. I'm starting to think that maybe the way the oxycodone affects blood pressure may have something to do with it. Either way, I think some abstinence is a good idea. To be honest I am having a lot of trouble with it. I posted another thread about detoxing. I put together a "kit" of items that I have read may help minimize the effects of WD. I am mostly afraid of these symptoms due to the nature of my job, which I also described in my other thread. If anyone has any thoughts on that, it would be greatly appreciated as well. Thank you for your ideas, I hope to here more.
