Hey there. Long time lurker, first time poster and all that.

I've been addicted to OxyContin for the last 4 years since I was 18, so have spent my entire adult life in it's grasp. I will soon be put onto the methadone program because even though I have detoxed many times I have never been able to stay off for more than a month. I just wrote a blog entry regarding my background if anyone would like a more detailed history of my addiction.

I'm basically asking for advice, or other experiences similar to mine, and basically everyone's opinion on whether my going on methadone for stability in my life is justified. I have a long term girlfriend who desperately wants me to be clean, and I want to do a Diploma/Degree in Addiction Therapy so I can at least put these last few wretched years to good use.

I use Oxy or sometimes methadone solution every day, and take ~80mg a day but sometimes upwards of 200mg a day. Most in a day was 520mg. I started using Oxy via IV and have never done it any other way. I'm sorry if this thread isn't justified, I'm still learning the rules.

Any input would be awesome, feel free to ask me any questions, I'll try my best to answer honestly.

Are you saying you were put on methadone maintinence and you are using more than prescribed? I'm a bit confused because you said you use both oxy and methadone.

I would say if you are taking the prescribed dosage of methadone to keep stability in your life (and stay off opiates) then it is completely justified. I believe it is a miracle drug for a lot of people.

I'm not so experienced with opiates but the way I see it is that it depends on whether your primary goal is to be totally clean or to be functional. Some people only feel successful if they are no longer using anything while others take a more practical approach. I have heard that methadone withdrawal is worse than just about any other opiate though. Good luck!
