I have been on oxy/hydro for 4 months usually using as ordered sometimes abusing, I have developed a tolerance and a dependence on these. I am attempting to quit but every time I try to quit I get such bad anxiety and or depression, I can't put my finger on which one it is, anyway I have 180 mg left as they are the 30mg ir. so I guys know if I taper down taking some daily? I can handle the physical parts of the withdrawal but I can't cope with the anxiety/depression. Now I'm just wondering iv done this cold turkey many times and always end up dealing with the anxiety. Basically so u guys know if I taper of it will even help the anxiety or no?

Even with a taper, you will still probably experience some anxiety during withdrawal, but you can expect for it to be significantly reduced. If you want me to work out a taper plan for you I need some information from you.
1. How many mg do you do per day, on average?
2. Do often you do your dose your opiates each day?

Heres all the info I can give you, for the past month no pain only using for fun, usally over 200 mgs per dose, 200-260 range, once or twice reached 300 mg

so for the past month every 3-5 days I would use once anywhere from 150-260. Not daily use, i have 180 MG left.

hope that helps?

Also to add- I don't really get the physical withdraws, Possibly because of the fact that im not a every day user? just assuming. if that helps at all

All right here's what I've got - It's gonna be a 12 day taper and it's going to require you to split your pills up quite a bit. First take 4 of your pills and cut them each up in 1 20mg part and 1 10 mg part. Then, take the remainder of your pills and cut them up into 5 mg parts. After you do this you should have 4 20 mg fragments, 4 10 mg fragments, and 12 5 mg parts. Know, for the first 4 days of your taper stabilize your dose at 1 20 mg fragment and 1 5 mg fragment each day. The 4 days after that, move down into 1 10 mg fragment and 1 5mg fragment each day. The 4 days after that, move down to 1 5 mg fragment each day. After that stop using completely. Now, you may be wondering why the doses of this taper are so small when compared to your usual dosage and the answer for this is two-fold: firstly, your remaining supply isn't that large, and from my experience a lesser dosage of opiates is required to alleviate psychological symptoms, like anxiety(which you have), than to stop physical symptoms, like diarrhea and the chills(why you don't seem to have to any distressing extent).

This plan will probably be easy to follow from a physical standpoint, but you have to keep track of yourself psychologically while doing this. Do some activities to relieve your anxiety like meditating or taking a short nap. I personally find that running or doing some other form of exercise for at least half an hour a day is great for slowing down your frenzied mind and helping you calm down. if you have trouble sleeping because of the anxiety, check out sublingual melatonin at your pharmacy. If you are still having anxiety or depression two weeks after completing this taper, it may be indicative of some non-substance related psychological issues or imbalances. As for your question in the previous comment, taking even a short break in between opioid usage can help prevent tolerance from rising too fast, but I don't know if it has anything to do with the different types of w/d symptoms that you experience when you quit. Best of luck, and if you can keep us posted on your progress with either a post or a PM.

Now do you think I can defeat the anxiety/depression with some non addictive Gabapentin? I can get a hold of that, If I take gaba daily and go cold turkey isnt that going to be the best bet? instead of continuing to put this drug inside me

First things first: gabapentin is addictive. Much less so than oxycodone, but it's still not something to joke around with. However, I do think that it is a much preferable option to going back to the pretty high levels of oxycodone that you were taking. If you are able to find a stable supply of gabapentin and use it in moderation, I think that you could pull it off. Do you know how much gabapentin you expect to take already or are you planning on titrating your dose?

(EDIT: This is being asked to the OP. because of the nature of his habit being that he uses every 3-5 days a relatively large dose) I am just wondering how long it takes for you to start feeling withdrawal? Is it not until 3 days after you have used oxyc? I have a friend who uses similarly to you and he seems to have avoided a bad addiction. The thing is he has mentioned feeling some withdrawal symptoms in the past. He had mentioned to me he was at work and his back was killing him for no reason and I told thats a trademark opiate w/d sign. I didn't ask him any specifics like how long since he had used and such. I've always wondered how the w/d manifests for people who use large doses but skip days, though they have been doing it habitually for an extended period of time.

The longer a drug's half-life is, the longer you have from the last dose until withdrawal symptoms become noticeable. In the case of your friend, the time-release mechanism of OxyContin may have played a role by keep a respectable level of oxycodone in his bloodstream for some time, thus they delayed onset of withdrawal. However, even with this in mind I would expect for withdrawals to begin, at the latest, within 24 hours of the last dose unless its something with a ridiculous half-life like methadone.
