Hey, before letting this thread die off, perhaps I could just dig a bit further, and ask if there are other health concerns that may be related to oxy use, such as stomach cancer, ulcers, etc. I have heard that the filler used in the pill formation (in the US & possibly Canada) contains a carcinogenic compound that is banned in other countries.
It's
BHT..... And yeah. That's one reason I don't take OxyContin (the other being.... I hate the OP formulation). If they brought back the OC's, I'd gladly go back... Until then, I would much rather take roxicodone as it contains no nonsense. No carcinogens. And some of the fewest inactive ingredients I've EVER seen for a pharmaceutical opioid, possibly only rivaled by that of Dilaudid IR.
Has anyone seen the Roxicodone 5mg? They are white, and contain ZERO of the dyes
OR additives added to the colored (10, 15, 20, 30mg) tabs. There is also a substantial difference in price, but we can't go into this further than this.
In my subjective opinion and based on all the research I've done (which is EXTENSIVE, I assure you), the 5mg Roxicodones are by and far one of the cleanest pills I've ever come across. Granted, this is GREAT for people like me who don't inject their medication, but I can see why such a small 5mg formulation wouldn't work for people like... well, I know someone who regularly does shots of 500mg+ oxycodone, and that would require what, 1000 x 5mg roxis?
But if your an oral doser, and are really worried about the BHT or the plastic polymer bullshit in OxyContin and the similar INTAC or w/e, I cant even keep up with them all these days, whatever Opana ER's time-release/abuse-deterrent recipe is. But I want nothing to do with it and since arguably the most important vote that counts is the vote you cast with your dollar, I refuse to finance companies that practice beyond questionable business ethics, *cough cough* most modern non-morphine ER medications *cough cough*
edit: I just consulted Sekio, and he says that he's not concerned at all about the BHT in USA OxyContin (then again... he doesn't have to take the BHT-formulation, he has access to OxyNeo if he were so inclined....), he even went as far as to say that it was an antioxidant and raises the valid point that in many countries, particularly the United States, you can find BHT in just about anything as a preservative/additive. It's in everything from food, to food packaging, even jet fuel (not like this is very reassuring!!!! LOL).
So yeah, I don't think it's cool that the USA Purdue OxyContin formulation elected to save pennies on the dollar by utilizing such a questionable ingredient, one that's so obviously unnecessary (since Health Canada flat out refused to dispense/manufacture/distribute/prescribe the BHT-containing OP branded USA OxyContin, which our Food and Drug Administration passed likely without second thought or even considering how the consumers might react to the FDA deciding that they were not concerned about the possibility of giving their own citizens a possible carcinogen).
