I was just prescribed 15 oxycodone 1o's

I was wondering if anyone had any tips on what to do to get the most from them. For example - take on a full stomach, avoid certain foods etc.. I'm pretty new to opiates. I just took one pill 5 minutes ago and had ate about an hour ago.

any info would help - thanks

When giving advice to opiate newbies i always say to start off modestly. I have seen way too many people overdo it on their first few times because they are taking bad advice or just simply mirroring more experienced and higher toleranced users. Start off with a small dosage and work your way up slowly until you find that sweet spot.

10 mg for an opiate-naive individual is my usual recommendation for a recreational experience. I would certainly disagree with blakmike, because 20 - 25 mg oxycodone to an opiate-naive individual would likely have him or her very sick with a lot of nausea, probably vomiting, excessive sedation, "overpowering" body load, lightheadedness w/ or w/o headache, and more possible side-effects due to a high dose. 10 mg oxycodone orally is actually quite strong for an opiate-naive individual, despite the drug's inherent subtle, but extremely euphoric qualities. My first opiate experience was with 5 mg oxycodone - very, very nice without any side-effects whatsoever. But, 10 mg oxycodone gave me a better high, even without tolerance, with minimal, if any, side-effects. Now, some people are sensitive to opiates, biologically it seems, and so 10 mg could even be overpowering, BUT it will likely be nice if you are someone who has an affinity for opiates. Some people don't like them. Weird, I know, but true. Take oxycodone orally for best result, and always IF it contains other drugs like APAP, ASA, or ibuprofen. Beware that opiates are extremely addictive to those who do enjoy their effects - one of the most addictive, if not the most, class of drugs when it comes to a psychological standpoint with addiction. Of course, they are physically addictive, too, VERY, but the wd's very seldom cause one's life to be in danger, unlike life-threatening wd's (when done cold-turkey) of drugs like benzos, barbiturates, or alcohol, for some examples. Still, though, beware. Opiate addiction is not one you wish to fall into - anyone will tell you that. That said, do enjoy, and let the effects roll over you with an open mind. Take them on an empty of full stomach, an empty one increasing the chance of nausea, in which case just lie down, and it should go away. Either, though, is pretty much fine. Don't abuse any other drugs while taking an opiate for the first time, especially - it can lead to danger very quickly even if you think you know what you are doing. If you take other drugs regularly and are dependent and/or addicted, continue with them, but don't take anything you wouldn't on a daily basis when trying opiates out for the first time, especially like I said. They depress respiration enough to make it very dangerous to be adding other CNS depressant drugs (including alcohol) into the mix, and such a combination can lead to OD if not done very wisely and educatedly, and even then all bets are off. But, do know what you're taking before you take it - whatever it may be. Know a lot. That is always good advice when it comes to drugs. As I said, though, just enjoy, but safely as I have been trying to stress.

10mg is enough to overpower some naive users, I would personally start off with 5 and take more if that doesn't do "enough"

Since these are the time release pills they are going to be more like 2x 4mg oxycodone spaced 6 hours apart, each. So taking two or even three (if you are heavy set or tolerant to opioids) would probably give you a buzz.

You can also take some 1st gen antihistamines, or antipsychotics, like quetiapine/Seroquel, diphenhydramine/Benadryl, promethazine/Phenergan, doxylamine, hydroxyzine et cetera. They will increase sedation, analgesia/euphoria, and reduce itching and nausea as side effects. Cannabis is also a good mixer. Avoid large quantities of alcohol. Stimulants are permissible to combine too, as long as you don't overdo it, and may potentiate the experience somewhat. ("speed balls")

Chewing/crushing these new formulation oxycontins is a waste of your time, just eat 'em. Light meals will help, but heavy/fatty meals will slow absorbtion somewhat

It would help if we knew whether they were time-released or not. I'm assuming since you took that one pill, you have an idea of what your dosage should be. If you need to increase it, I'd definitely do it 1/2 a pill at a time. Most people take opiates on an empty stomach, but that makes some people nauseous. If you have access to ondansetron (Zofran), it works fantastic for nausea and potentiates opiates, so it's win-win. If they're not time-released and you want to get a little more out of 'em, try taking cimetidine (Tagamet) an hour prior to the OC, or drinking grapefruit juice. Both of them inhibit the enzyme that metabolizes opiates, and should make them last a little longer and possibly have a stronger effect.

Also, while Sekio's list is fantastic, you should probably get some more experience with opiates before you mix them with anything too strong. Even with just antihistamines you might wind up passing out and waking up very, very upset!

5-10 mg would be a good start, and the 10mg oxycodone pills are instant release, ive gotten them for years and not heard or seen anything about 10mg ER or oxycontin style time release...... I could be wrong but Ive had several brands and all have been IR

I would start off with 15mgs, perfect starting dose IMO, I never felt anything from 5-10mgs with Hydrocodone or Oxycodone when I first got into opiates.

if your new to them you don't want to take more than 2, they have a side effect of nausea to the point of spewing...

I ended up taking 20mg and you were exactly right.

I threw up, and felt like death the entire night. It was actually so bad I'm probably never going to take percocets again.

This post is a little old but i thought i'd share the result in case anyone in my situation is wanting information like i was.

I'll stick with my adderall and benzos 8o

^diphenhydramine (benedryl) works well for nausea as well as other 1st Gen. Antihistamines. they also stop the itches. i remember when i was still opiate naive, i would get sooo itchy, i still do get itchy on suboxone these days, but nothing like it was when i was just startign opiates. b they are not a fun road to go down. if you are like me, you will want to use everyday and every minute, but some people can control their usage, the percent is slim though. opiate addiction sucks, it starts with a script of hydro from the doc because you got hurt, to buying oxy and hydro pills off the street, to roxi's, to heroin and other strong opiate pharms.

try to always swallow oxy, the oral BA is higher than nasal BA. if you use them everyday you wil get addited

What's the deal with eating and opiates? Are you supposed to eat before you take it, during? or at all? I can't help but think a lot of the times i've taken hydro/oxy codone and felt like shit, it was because of something i was eating or lack thereof. Usually when i take it I'm doing so as a comedown remedy for amphetamines. Is that what could be doing it also?

Plenty of good advice above.

Do us a favor and please don't abuse opiates heavily. My honeymoon phase almost got me addicted, until I ran out of money. Now I know better and I won't touch opiates more then 2-3 times a month at most.

If you find yourself dosing everyday or really looking forward to that next dose, JUST STOP. It only gets worse and harder to deal with trust me. For now, have fun!
