I am currently on a holiday vacation break so I had been sleeping a lot lately. There are days where I would sleep for about 12-13 hours. I have noticed that I will experience a headache even when I have slept so much. Has any of you experienced this from oversleeping?

I get it too. I get headaches if I do nothing all day/don't leave place, as well.

do you think dehydration may be a factor at all? i only ask because i experience headaches after such long sleeps which ive associated with just lacking some water. a few glasses and an hour later it has disappeared.

^ I don't think it is dehydration because I always make sure i drink enough fluids everyday. Although for the past two days I have had slight stomach issues so it is possible that this might be related.

what is your daily routine? what does your diet consist of? do you think you could be deficient in magnesium? do you think this could be a result of your 'fast in the past'? if <------ thats the case, just do what you were doing before, and time will heal it

^it might be still part of a comedown because my diet is rich in fiber and lean protein. I take a magnesium supplement everyday and exercise from 4 to five times a week.

try to ease back into fiber i suppose, so yeh maybe have juice with your meals, and make your portions of fibre dense rich food, smaller .

Not for me as I keep a bottle of water next to me and wake up multiple times a night as is so I always make sure to take a swig before going back to slumberland. Oversleeping is listed as a cause of migraines here, http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/migraine-headache/DS00120/DSECTION=causes.

People get used to the stress of a busy lifestyle but as soon as they get a chance to rest, their cortisol level drops and the true state of their body comes out. It's why people get sick or feel burned out on vacation.

Sleeping for 12-13 hours is a long time to barely be moving. Think about all the congestion in your body, and in your neck and shoulders.

In the time you're awake you could benefit from some cardio. Anything that gets your heart rate up for about 20 minutes or so. And yeah, good food and hydration will play a role.

If you feel that those 12-13 hours are not productive rest - i.e. you awaken feeling like shit, not really rested - then that falls under the category of an adrenal sign. Bodies that need rest yet can't rest usually do well with schizandra. But address diet and exercise first.

^foreigner this makes a lot of sense, it seems as if my body is used to the hectic 6 hour sleep and stressful levels and all of a sudden its rested and on a hiatus mode. I overslept again today and it gave me a headache. I think I should really try not to oversleep and do a little bbit of cardio even at home.

Daylight and activity are essential for general health. Overly lying in bed runs the body and mind down to a sluggish and depressive state, particularly ripe for a headache coming from a busy work environment to a too much sleep environment without sufficiently detoxing from work life first. My tardy advice would be some gentle running or other exercise in an open space and drinking lemon juice in water in the morning and a few cups of strong ginger tea in the day. I hope you recovered well anyhow.

^Thank you P-helix I am better than ever. I have actually been drinking water with lemon or green tea with lemon as I have read that green tea with lemon extract is a double anti-oxidant and cleanses the body.

^ That's good to hear, Maya. I rarely suffer from headaches but I've been plagued with oversleeping into the day so I'm thinking getting up earlier should be my resolution for 2014, although drinking poppy tea last night, something I do occasionally, made it that much harder. I think I would rather be tired for a time and experience full days from now on getting back to normality. I'm drinking lemon juice in water today and fully intend to walk the walk regarding my aims this year. All the best.

I've noticed what time you go to bed/get up seems to have an effect on how much sleep you need; the later I go to sleep the more sleep I need.

Try getting back to a normal sleeping pattern where your going to bed at 11pm-1am and waking up 7am-10am. Obviously when you first go to try and sleep at midnight ish you probably won't be able to sleep because of your current pattern, but try, slow steps and chip away at that sleeping time. 13 hours is a lot of the day to waste in bed.
