Overcoming Shyness Without Alcohol

Drugs would be a short term answer(more like a band-aid for the symptoms). Look into psychotherapy(CBT, perhaps?) if you want to treat the source of the problem.

I believe you have some sort of anxiety. You should probably go to a doctor instead of self treating yourself. Eventually you will find some how to cope with it. Klonopin works wonders for my GAD.

I agree as well, Once you take enough Klonopin and your Stress-Free you tend to stay that way............. I do take Xanax as well though........

Ive been on klonopin and xanax, as well as many other benzos for my anxiety, and I always end up eating them like candy. It's too bad because I know they work for many people, but no amount of any type of benzo ever helped my anxiety.

ive tried cbt, but it didnt help all that much. my social anxiety also has physical symptoms, like sweating, heard palpitations, shakes, slurred speach. i take clonidine for the anxiety instead of benzos (had a bad benzo habit) but it doesnt help all that much. ive been looking up on lyrica and may give that a shot. i tried soma for it also but ended up eating them like m&ms, my typical addictive personality taking over.

^^Exactly, and "band-aid drugs"(nice term phrozen, very fitting), will ultimately cause you more trouble in the long run.

I know there is no magical drug that will cure all my problems, including my anxiety, but I have been getting really desperate. i have already started experimenting again with drugs after being sober for over a year. my anxiety keeps making me fall back on drugs. the way i see it, my choices are to be sober and miserable, or high and miserable

Hey guys. Here's the situation. When I talk to people in large gatherings, I clam up and lose my cool. If I drink alcohol, this causes a huge change, and alcohol + xanax + caffiene makes me the fucking man. I love it. The catch is, I am a very serious about bodybuilding, and getting wasted just isn't an option. It's also innapropriate to be wasted in some situations.

Is there a drug out there that can help? What I am hoping for is to gain self-esteem from being the man on drugs, and eventually not needing the drugs.

So far I have looked into Tramadol, and people say it is quite pro-social. Shouldn't be to much of a problem for me to get a hold of if anyone recommends it.

Next thing I'm looking at is GHB as that would allow me to get drunk without plumetting my testosterone levels. That will be a fair bit harder to get a hold of though.

unfortunately, there ain't a cure-all drug for shyness. sure, opiate will fix up your problem real quick and in a hurry, but then you run the risk of addiction. same with benzos. same with ANY drugs that just flat out make you feel good.

if you wanna get over shyness, the only real way is to raise your self esteem, by using relaxation methods or hypnosis or therapy or whatever and by practicing in real life. and it ain't easy. drugs are much easier.

Cognitive behavioral therapy.

tried it(with their prescribed meds), didn't do anything for me.

Valium and Xanax are two good options for the OP. I'd stick with valium though, xanax tends to just stop working too quickly.

10-20mg valium will do the trick, you won't feel "high", you won't feel a "buzz" what you will notice is how easy it is to engage in conversation.

i've tried that and in my experience it doesn't work. it's just like when i tried to gain enlightenment from being like buddha when i was high on marijuana. the buddha like consciousness only lasts as long as the drug. after that, you don't feel enlightened anymore. i tried the same thing with alcohol and benzos, the confidence only lasts as long as they last. benzos do work for me when i am on them though.

I'd recommend trying phenibut. It's an OTC GABAergic, meaning mechanism of action similar to alcohol, but without the bad side effects. I've found it works quite well as a social lubricant.

However, there is truth to the assertion that any drug is a 'band-aid' fix. Getting more comfortable with yourself is something that takes time, and effort. The best way to do it is practice; put yourself in social situations as much as you can. Join clubs. Go out a lot. This may sound like corny advice, but it works. Taking some phenibut in the beginning might not be a bad idea, but don't get to relying on it.

I'd stick to a a few drinks, not many though. its really easy to overdo it and go a little loopy in public on alcohol (in my experience)

but really you should get to the root of all this and face it head on :)
