Hey guys,

I took tetracycline for acne for a year and a half and I think it has damaged my gut flora by altering the bacteria levels in my gut. I think I have gut dysbiosis now. I have stomach cramping, pain and diahrea.

I have no idea how I can repair this. But I thought maybe probiotics and perhaps a Fecal Transplant could help.

Any advice would be appreciated.

While searching through the possible relief to your current condition OP I found this:

I am not too sure if Putrefaction Dysbiosis is what you have, but as mentioned in the article, is usually managed with a diet high in both soluble and insoluble fiber and low in saturated fat and animal protein. It is best to go seek a medical professional (doctor) first as they will be the best people to ask IMO regarding your current medical condition. Let us know what the doctor says OP and report back to us with details regarding treatment and diet changes you may need to execute.

You should have been on some kind of pro-biotic from day one of taking those antibiotics but most doctors aren't trained to care about it, so they'd never tell you.

Research enteric coated pro-biotics. Those are the only ones that have worked for me from antibiotic related gut problems. One brand I've used is called Gr8-dophilus. If it's not enteric coated then your stomach acid will probably destroy the bacteria and render it useless, the exceptions being any probiotics that are 20 billion cells or higher per dose.

Eat fermented foods like sauerkraut, yogurt, and fruit ferments to help digestion and restore gut flora. Consider stopping the tetracycline because long-term antibiotics are known culprits for many GI diseases. They're hard to process and they wreck your native immune system.

Also consider seeing a natural health practitioner who can give you more accurate advice. Taking pro-biotics alone might not fix it all. I would not see an MD about fixing this problem because they will just prescribe more medications. You'll need a refined diet and immune modulation to fix this.

I've stopped the tetracycline now, for 3 months, and I'm still having these problems. I'm gonna take your advice and see a naturopath, and look into those probiotics.

I just hope these problems aren't permanent.

Thanks for the advice!
