In a few days I will be in Northern Italy (Venice and surrounding areas). I will be there for 10 days. What sorts of medications are available at the pharmacy over the counter? Specifically I'm interested in Tramadol, Codeine, Promethazine and some sort of muscle relaxer-however I'm open minded when it comes to medications-if I can have fun with it I want it! What do I ask for as far as brand name etc? Will they require identification? I assume I can't just roll into one pharmacy and stock up, but do they have a country wide database of purchases like we do in the states? If I go to several different pharmacies in different towns will I be okay?
Just to add: I have a valid prescription for Tramadol from my US doctor (well I have the bottle). If I bring the bottle to pharmacy would they give me more pills or would they need to contact my doctor? (I do have a pretty severe and medically documented reason for pain that is incurable but my pills never last as long as they should).
