dont tell me none of you were expecting this after the bullshit in my last thread about internet ettiquete.
what do you want from this? We need outlines
I dont want this turning into another RDC (as daq kindly stated)
I thought the idea was just to "discuss" topics that wernt paticulary rave related etc.
I think the age old rule of threads staying on topic should stay. What you guys did to my thread (and i'm not insulted, i did laugh) was basically graffiti. I know this is a new forum and we are all testing the boundries a bit, but really, I kinda thought it was unnecisary.
This is up fer discussion. I think threads should stay on topic (generally) New threads talking bullshit are welcome etc "munke vs piggy" where you can go nutz.
This IS a social forum, but if it continues like this, I dont really think anybody is gonna benifit from it. Waste of bandwidth IMHO.
So, its your call, if you are happy with it running like this, then I guess it will stay.
To all the people that are using this as a chat site, youve proved ur point ok. I know a few of you didnt like the idea of having a social forum, but thats no reason to make it hard for everyone else.
peace - Horse
also, please refrain from using html too much ok. No quicker way to make UBB board look tacky than shite looking html. And if any of you feel the need to make some smart ass reply to this thread, just hold out ok, we seen it already.

and please dont take any of this as a flame. i just want things cleared up mmmkay

Good ol' Horsey already mentioned the two points I wanted to bring up, keeping things on topic, and not using this for chat, but I just wanted to add this... As with the other forums, the social forum is not a substitute for email, ICQ, or for those of you who know each other, the phone! Keep the little personal messages to yourselves, the whole world doesn't need to know.
On the point of html, I don't mind it personally, but only as long as it's done properly. I've been on a couple of boards where quite a few people very effectively use colour and html in their posts... and then there are places like RDC

"oh dude i'm sooo wrecked"
"yeah me too. maybe a little too wrecked"
"is there such a thing?" :p

Yep, I reckon as long as they stay on topic, all should be well.
Hey maybe we should start a Bluelight channel on IRC?

You guys make a good point, it does tend to take up space right? Tars - the no chat thing, your right. Topics are a much better way of discussion without the "chat" bullshit creeping in. Thats my two cents.

Yep keep the clicky bullshit out. I agree. If there is one thing i hate above all, its that new users feel the board is too overwhelming for them and that they are too intimidated to post. Which definatly should not be the case. This is originally why i thought the social forum wasnt the greatest idea around in the first place. Its lots of fun for us older users(im enjoying myself) but if i was a newbie id come in here and think half this shit is just a waste of time.
And no offense horse but i thought that internet ettiquete post really didnt belong here at all. It was good but a tad on the 10 commandments side. So yeh we had fun with it for a bit.
SO yeh...Now ive changed my tune a little. I think the social forum can be really cool but well it was pretty rushed into, and it just happened all of a sudden,no guidelines were actually set out as to what EXACLTY it was for... What is the point of this forum? I think the books and movie posts are great.
Stuff like that seems to definatly be the way to go..Topics that EVERYONE feels they can contribute to. Not fights between two or three users who think they are being really amusing because they know each other . Thats a watse of time and when it comes down to it, it is mostly not all all that fucking entertaining to others.
I also think that the more moderators the better. Drug discussion has 4 and well i dont see any reason why this forum(and meetups) shouldnt have 4 either. Haste get your ass in as a mod here..or entropope.or mikeysammy. or decimal dan. or its chaos.or soma or finn or happycamper or sunflower..or someone who wants to do it and who seems enthusiastic about the site (these are just some random names i thought of im sure there are heaps of others). Someone!
p.s
On another note i think that anyone WhO PoStS lIkE ThIS SHoULd bE BANneD INstAnTLy.

Well said Daq - nicely put - this forum is desperate danger of becoming another Bluelight Social and needs solid guidlines and stern moderators who are not afraid to enforce them. Not everything a moderator does will gain popular support - but hey this should not a popularity contest. So don't be afraid to kick some butt Tarsarlan and Mr.Horse.
I think because of the traffic that will be generated on this forum that another moderator is in order - to spread the workload.
Hugzz to you all

So I guess I've worked out why so many thread are reaching like 200 replies. That's obviously just people bored and chatting to each other through the board. There is a chat room and ICQ and many other chat facilities on the web instead of taking up so much bandwidth space on crap. Not only that, but I don't have the patience to even open a thread with 180 replies, knowing that it will take a life time to read it all.
Even as someone who's been around for ages, I feel a little left out of the melbourne clique that seems to exist in a lot of threads. Most of the posts are about what's going on outside of bluelight. Not very inviting to someone like me, or especially a newbie.
I'm really worried about this forum becoming too structured and was all ready to reply with something along the lines of 'leave it alone'. But like haste said, I think it's essential we have stern moderation from a moderator outside the clique that seems to exist here (mona for example) to stop the mindless chatter and boredom posts that should really be on ICQ, not on the board.
Now that I've given my opinion on what should happen, I should make suggestions as to what guidelines there should be but my time is running out at this internet cafe and I have to run

Miss apples i totaly agree. Mona of course would be an awesome mod. That said, the names i suggested arent all melbourne people and half of them i have never had any contact with. I just thought they would make good mods based on their posts. But just becuase someone is from melb they sholdnt be discrminated against either..A lot of the regular posters on this board are melbourne people. Thats a fact. And the only way to elimiante the melbounre clickynees(which i agree does sometimes happen) is to have more people psot from other states. Having a non melbourne mod isnt really going to make all that much difference on this point.

i dont mind, as long as we are allowed to continue baggin the pig in my thread

i know we go overboard on the html in there, but well it makes it more fun, and thats what that thread is about.

yeah definately a good idea......nuthing against RDC or anything but most not all, but most of the posts on there have no particular topic, we don't want Bluelight turning into another RDC, thats for sure. Doesn't mean the people who post on RDC don't rawk tho!!

yes i think i have to agree with morpheusdaq there. there are more regular posters in here from melb than any other city.. and its not because we said so that its dominated by melbourne. and if its a problem that theres too much dominance from melbourne then by all means, come on perthians and brisvegans and sydneysiders.. we want to hear more of you, put us melbourne people in our place.
having mods that are purposely non-melbournian wont stop us all from posting in here so much.
i want to see some action. there should be two more mods, there are a pile of us that could do it, and most of that pile im sure would be happy to do it (not that tars and horse are doing a bad job but i reckon they need help) so lets get something happening in here. there should be 4 mods. 2 more.
one was going to be finn last i heard.. and choose another..

Note: This message is for informational and entertainment purposes only.

oh yeah and i also believe there should be a couple more mods in the meetups forum too.
thats where there needs to be non-melb representation (imo).

And hey can ANYONE who reads this plz just post something offering up their opinion. Either agreeing or disagreeing or whetever.
It'd be good to see the opinions of other ppl besides the same old tired bunch (no offense to the same old tired bunch)

agreed. more mods.
and yes, i think pple who tYpE LiKe ThiS should be banned. no thats abit extreme, how about warned?
upon saying that, i feel a need to explain that my nick is written GhOst purely out of habit as my irc nick was Gh0st (with a zero, not an O). in early irc days, where commands were manually typed, we often took on nicks which are difficult to type quickly to protect ourselves from floods/attacks/nukes etc, (my other nick was Va|_kYr|e). so i have a habit of having nicks which arent so straightforward to type.
but yeh, i think in a normal msg, a long mixture of capital and small aphabets is an eyesore.
but then its a free country isnt it?
btw, ive been weening myself off my irc-typing, so pple know im not in 4th grade. nah, actually so its easier to read. abit of effort to make life easier for everyone.
sorry for the ramble-on... ummm yes, we need more mods. im thinking White Smoke, if hes not too busy. or Sproing? pinger? can we re-pester them?

ooh ooh i got a word in, *wipes brow* thats pretty hard around here *cheeky grin*, ok my official non-melbourne person opinion is that you need some oestrogen in here boys ... and no, not me, finn sounds like a great idea for a mod .... go girl!

~peace out~

I agree we need more female mods!!
Vote 1 - Finn & Sunflower - I have followed both of their post very closely - they both post in a very mature fashion, have excellent people skills and are open minded. They will add a female balance to the board that I think is missing at the momment and needed.
