Covid-19 Outbreak of new SARS-like coronavirus (Covid-19)

Makes me wish I could have been a fly on the wall when his advisors had to figure out how to convince him he was going to lose re-election without a doubt if he didn't change. What's even more disgusting, is that he chose his own misguided beliefs about what would be best for his re-election over what was best for our country. He is just a truly toxic individual, and I honestly hope our country has got smart to his manipulations and he'll be gone soon. When he makes comment like the whacko doctor on Fox News is his guide, you truly get little glimpses into his thought process and the type of people he surrounds himself with to guide his decisions (think: Peter Navarro)
All things Russia set aside, this reminds me of the 2016 debate when Clinton called Trump a puppet. He is certainly controlled rather easily by his own narcissism.

The sad irony in all of this is that I hear from my conservative friends who (still) support Trump all about their fear of losing our country to the socialist antifa commies and the good ol' USA turning into a third world country BUT they can't see our country currently being flushed down the toilet because of covid and our lack of leadership worsening the situation.

Even Trump is now saying the mask is "patriotic". He knows America is going down the toilet, but obviously never cared that much about it, his votes are more important than the American people.

Will his supporters hold him accountable for any of our problems with the out of control virus? I haven't seen it, and I'm surrounded by Trumpers

I think Trump has created a problem that isn't going to go away anytime soon. Trump fueld so much falsities that hurt our country all to cater and fuel his most loyal base even more: uneducated white people. So now we have a large portion of individuals spewing hate, racism and conspiracy theories all with the justification that our President reinforced it. My guess is, his hesitation to acknowledge the reality of things like the coronavirus and set a good example, he was terrified of alienating his base. This came at the cost of our country turning into an absolute mess, and the educated white voters, mom's and the elderly finally said enough is enough. So Trump finally chose to change up, but the question is now, what will happen with his loyal base who has been using Trump as justification to spew hate for so long now? I've already seen them argue recently "we think for ourselves, unlike the sheep brainwashed by MSM", which is full of irony because they've been manipulated and brainwashed by the most toxic man around: Donald J. Trump. I get the concerns about the far left, but it does no good when Trump is running the country into the ground by himself anyways. I think we're going to see a very, very, very different version of Trump emerging pretty soon - one who doesn't make people want to scream at the delusional, manipulation nonsense any longer. Which is great, because now he can finally start leading by example and let the science dictate policy for the coronavirus pandemic. The checks and balances of our country working as intended :)

There is a better article by Forbes on this subject, entitled Is Fauci A “Deep State” Doctor? The Conspiracy Theory That Is Sickening America, but due to issues with linking to Forbes, I'll post CNN Business' article:

New York(CNN Business)Local television stations owned by the Sinclair Broadcast Group are set to air a conspiracy theory over the weekend that suggests Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top expert on infectious diseases, was responsible for the creation of the coronavirus.

The baseless conspiracy theory is set to air on stations across the country in a segment during the program "America This Week" hosted by Eric Bolling. The show, which is posted online before it is broadcast over the weekend, is distributed to Sinclair Broadcast Group's network of local television stations, one of the largest in the country. A survey by Pew Research Group earlier this year showed that local news was a vital source of information on the coronavirus for many Americans, and more trusted than the media overall.

Why Sinclair matters: Local news is Americans' No. 1 news source

In this week's episode of the show, Bolling spoke with Judy Mikovits, the medical researcher featured in the discredited "Plandemic" video that went viral earlier this year and which was banned from platforms such as Facebook and YouTube. Throughout the segment, the on-screen graphic read, "DID DR. FAUCI CREATE COVID-19?"

Bolling also spoke with Mikovits' attorney, Larry Klayman, a right-wing lawyer who also has a history of pushing misinformation and representing conspiracy theorists.

During the interview Mikovitz told Bolling that Fauci had over the past decade "manufactured" and shipped coronaviruses to Wuhan, China, which became the original epicenter of the current outbreak. Bolling noted that this was a "hefty claim," but did not meaningfully challenge Mikovits and allowed her to continue making her case.

Klayman, who did not respond to a request for comment, also pushed conspiracy theories about the coronavirus. He said the "origins" of the virus were in the United States. Bolling didn't meaningfully challenge Klayman either.

In the segment that immediately followed, Bolling spoke to Dr. Nicole Saphier, a Fox News medical contributor, to get her response to the claims from Mikovits and Klayman.

Bolling and Saphier agreed that it was, in Saphier's words, "highly unlikely" that Fauci was behind the coronavirus. But they went on to theorize about other possible explanations for what had happened. Saphier said it was possible the virus was "man-made within a laboratory" and escaped. That claim has been rejected by experts who have studied the virus' genetic sequence.

The segments were first reported on by Media Matters, a progressive media watchdog.

President Trump's allies in right-wing media have sought to discredit Fauci in recent weeks. Earlier this month, Trump administration officials even went as far as to publicly attack Fauci.

The Sinclair Broadcast Group has drawn criticism in the past for pushing a conservative political worldview in its newscasts and programming decisions. A spokesperson for the company did not respond to multiple requests for comment on Friday.

But Bolling, a former Fox News host, told CNN Business in a series of text messages that he invited Mikovits onto his show to "question and challenge her beliefs." Bolling also said he does not control the on-screen graphics that appear during his show.

"I did challenge her," Bolling said, noting he called her claim "hefty."

When pressed over whether calling a claim "hefty" constituted effectively challenging the conspiracy theory Mikovits pushed, Bolling said that he did believe he challenged her.

Bolling then told CNN Business that he was not aware of the viral "Plandemic" video Mikovits was featured in earlier this year, and said Saphier "was not originally booked on the show" and that he added her to "provide an opposing viewpoint."

"I don't know of any video she was in prior to or after appearing on my show. Frankly, I was shocked when she made the accusation," Bolling said. "I asked our producers to add Saphier to the show for the express purpose of debunking the conspiracy theory. I believe viewers see that I did not and do not endorse her theory."

When asked if he really was unaware that Mikovits had been in a viral video earlier in the year pushing misinformation about coronavirus, Bolling said he had been.

"I give you my word... this is the first I've heard of the video," Bolling said. "And the very first time I heard of Dr Mikovitz was the morning of taping."

But when asked whether, now that he was aware of the video, he had any second thoughts about airing the segment with Mikovits, Bolling replied, "I don't second guess my producers and bookers."

Bolling added, however, that he "certainly didn't endorse her theory."

I posted, more out of my own amusement, knowing there'd be words flyin' every which way. Many have egg on their twitter faces for quick responses based on a pic with no ....

with no context.

And, I did want to circle back once more info was available:

Fauci responds to 'mischievous' critics of photo at Nats game

...
“I think this is sort of mischievous with this thing going around,” Fauci said on Fox News Friday. “I had my mask around my chin, I had taken it down, I was totally dehydrated and I was drinking water, trying to rehydrate myself."

"And by the way, I was literally negative for COVID the day before," he added.
...
“I wear a mask all of the time when I’m outside,” Fauci said. “To pull it down to take some sips of water and to put it back up again, I guess if people want to make something about that they can. But to me I think that’s just mischievous.”

The mischevious part of me has been amused.

And in closing, for your athletic amusement:

PS - let no ego remain out of the spotlight, unless it so chooses to = Trump now says he won’t throw first pitch at Yankees game

Who taoes sips of water with his hands clasped together?

I was at Sequoia/Kings Canyon. Ot is weird being on a trail and seeing people pull mask up when you walk by. Thankfully the morons are in the minority out here in freedom land.

Was swimming at some waterfalls by Mt Shasta sunday and out of hundreds onoy a few weirdos masked uo

Hopefully they felt intense shame

freedom land
I'm not surprised in the least you have no idea what freedom means. It means they have the right to wear a face mask around you. It's their choice. That's freedom.

You seem to want to live in some totalitarian society where people aren't free to wear face masks because of some fear or delusion you have that face masks are wrong.

So you have passed not one judgement on non mask wearers?

Lol

except, of course, there's a difference...

if covid is real and you have it, your not wearing a mask in my presence puts me at risk of infection.

if covid is not real, you can call me a moron all you want but my wearing a mask doesn't impact you one bit.

Viruses evolve and make the jump between species all the time, it has happened many, many times before in history. There are many viruses in the coronavirus family, some of which cause the common cold (which is actually not all the same sickness, it's a bunch of different ones that cause similar symptoms). This is probably just one that mutated and is now causing a lot of problems. It's possible also that it was a genetically modified virus being studied in a lab that got out somehow, though I think it's more likely it was natural. I think it's very unlikely someone released it on purpose. It's devastated the whole world equally, bioweapons, I would think, would be more targeted. And if it was just some insane person looking to kill people indiscriminately and cause destruction for the sake of destruction, they picked a pretty mild virus for it (compared to how deadly some viruses are). No, I think it's just a ntaural occurrence. 100 years ago, the Spanish flu was a similar sort of pandemic, except more deadly. Pandemics are inevitable, we were overdue for one.

Thank you.

There's just no good evidence for covid19 being human engineered. And plenty good evidence against it.

The thing where I think a lot of people have their understanding of probability all broken, is that they don't realize that this was anticipated. This has been expected for decades.

Covid19 is hardly something that just show up out of nowhere and in need of an explanation. Something like it has been inevitable for the past several decades to say the least.

But I think a lot of people don't realize that. They think this is some unusual event that could only have happened by human intervention.

I've been kinda afraid of something like covid19 happening most of my life. So to me it hardly feels like this is an unusual event in need of an unusual explanation.

Exactly. Trump is a huge national security risk. Because he is effortlessly manipulated by appealing to his narcissistic ego. And no doubt every leader of every country hostile to American interests has been briefed on how to take advantage of it.

Iran has nothing to possibly gain through flattery. DPRK, China, Russia, obviously do. Muslim majority vs. non-muslim majority nations: self explanatory.

So with your arguement we should all be Christian

If hell is real I sure do not wanna be wrong.

Thats seriousky your arguement?

Act like christians !!!

LOL

It's really a super poor argument.

Alasdairms argument as I see it is that you lose virtually nothing by wearing a mask even if the virus were (sigh) a hoax.

Now apart from the fact that being a Christian is a far greater life commitment than wearing a fucking mask. It's not actually possible to choose to believe something if you in fact... Don't.

And pretending to believe is worth exactly squat.

So the scenarios aren't at all comparable. Ones super easy to do, the other is virtually impossible to do.
