My GP made bit of a cock-up with my prescriptions over the holiday season: Got everything but Amitriptyline on my repeats (can't blame her - They only recently got a new computer system and it's caused havok).
But before that I was on Dosulepin, I changed as Amitriptyline has a stronger AntiDep effect... Strongest of all the Tricyclics I think actually.

Anyhoo - Seeing as they act in practically the same manner but just with different strengths of affinity, I should be safe to just used my collection of Dosulepin without any danger should I not?
When first given Amitriptyline I started on it I instantly after a nightly dose of the former.

I'm fairly certain of this being safe but just wanted reassurance incase. I'd rather die by "falling asleep" than having a seizure :|

Cheers BDDerz <3 Long time no posty

TCA's can be quite dosagewise espeially concernig the LE50 or whatever, you know whatt I mean or just stop reading, but yeah it is possibly if not the strongest the strongest for anti depression alone and insomnia.

You wont have a seizure from a single missed doses and i dunno u just wont......im sure thats very calming for u... siezur4s are more a side effet from dicontinuing benzos rather than TCA's... not that tca DISCINUATION IS ANYTHING TO LAUGH ABOUT... ITS AN EXTREMLY POTTENT ANTI DEPRESSANT AND MAD I BELIVE IN THE 50'S OR 60'S AND STILL REGULARLY PRESCRIBED TODAY. Sorry about the capitatals I cant be bothered correcting it but mean no difference in my reading voice. Just get to your Dr. asap... if u are a member of a 'proper' 'seriou8s' clinic they will take youtr concerns seriously and slot u in a time as an 'emergency' if nothing else. U wont die, just certainly dont try make up the tryptanol dose with the ither drug/...... just qwait, u wont have a seizure and im certainly no MD BUT I BBET MY LIFE ON IT, IF U GET IT SORTED OUT ASAP.`

Oh sorry - I wasn't suggesting that I'd have a seizure due to not taking it, but if I take too much or combine them to the same extent then it's one of the many possible nasty side-effects.

Well I've just had some Temazepam and mulled wine with my last 50mg of Amitriptyline, and I've got 20 x 75mg and 30 x 25mg Dosulepin.
But yea, I'll leave it for tonight and then work out a dose of Dosulepin tomorrow.
Could ring NHS direct but hopefully I should have a script in a few days (dropped my repeat off today).

Anyhoo, cheers for the reply man, wasn't expecting any at all.

You can switch from one tricyclic to another, but cross-tapering is preferred, where the dose of the first drug is slowly reduced while the dose of the new drug is slowly increased. Since you took your last amitriptyline that's not an option, but you could just take a lower than usual dose of the dosulipin to be on the safe side. The GP Notebook says it's fine to "cautiously" introduce another TCA the next day when switching from a TCA, as opposed to some types of antidepressants where it is would be dangerous to do so and requires a week with nothing before starting. But I would be careful and go with a lower dose of the dosulipin, since you aren't doing this under a doctor's supervision.

Thankyou muchly Swimmingdancer <3

Aye - I literally took my first dose of Amitriptyline the night after switching, but I will err on the side of caution and take 75mg of Dosulepin tomorrow eve.

Cheers again mate.
