OTC alternatives to adderall?

^^^
Like I said, it has no recreational benefits.

It is a great drug in terms of doing what it was intended to do, enhance concentration and focus.

Modafinil is NOT approved for use as a drug therapy for ADHD. ADD and ADHD are dopamine related conditions. That is why Ritalin and Dexedrine work in lots of cases. They increase the available dopamine.

Modafinil is a norepinephrine antagonist, and has no effect on increasing available dopamine levels whatsoever. It will have little, if no effect at all in treating ADHD. I'm sorry that you have the condition you have. But complaining that Modafinil didn't work for you makes about as much sense as complaining that aspirin doesn't help your ADHD.

Modafinil has been approved in the United States in the treatment of sleep disorders such as narcolepsy. Modafinil was initially designed to treat vigilance disorders in the aged, which is one of its uses in Europe. It is also used in Europe to treat depression (due to its motivation enhancing aspects), as well as narcolepsy.

Your criticism of the drug is totally unfair. If your doctor prescribed it for you it was experimental on his part. The drug is NOT approved for treatment of ADD or ADHD. It simply won't work for you, because it is trying to fix a problem that isn't causing your condition.

Did you forget what this thread was about???? 8)
Ya, OTC alternatives for Adderall for the treatment of ADD. You just proved my point, this drug HAS NO value for the treatment of ADD. And I WAS prescribed this drug for ADD, most likely it was an experiment...but it didn't work.

Thank you. This drug simply won't work as an alternative.

That is NOT the post title, this is: "OTC alternatives to adderall?"
Just look at the top of the page.

This thread is NOT about ADD or ADHD. Here's his original post by Ohio Bastard:

before you flame me, ive read the guidelines, etc. i hope this is the appropriate forum, and ill try to make this brief.

i have a serious lack of physical energy and mental concentration. i feel like a junkie even though i dont do much drugs and its been a month since i even smoked a joint. i used to take adderall, but have no insurance and to make a long story short, it would be 4 months before the Dr. that prescibed it to me can see me for another appointment. i dont want to spend the next 4 months in my current state.

adderall normalized my sleep schedule, curbed my appetite and made me feel normal. im not trying to catch a buzz here, im just wanting to get thru the day and get things accomplished. i dont want to eat shit like minithins.
is there something at all that can help?

My post and my suggestion was specific to Ohio Bastard's original post, which has to do with "lack of physical energy and mental concentration." And normalizing his sleeping pattern.

We're not talking about ADD or ADHD.

Well first I will say, I wish I never ever got a script for Adderall, I had major tolerance issues with it, Ritalin sucks compared to amphetamine i know, but I think you would not fry your brain nearly as much if you were to take some kind of cheaper generic ritalin/methylphenidate (there are extended release generics available like Metadate, i think the "CD" one is generic but not the "ER" but i'm not sure on that)

As for cost, first, instead of taking 3 10mg tabs a day, you could cut your cost in half right there by asking the doctor to write a script for taking 20mg tabs instead, you said two in the morning and one later, so instead if you took 1 20mg in the morning and split the other one in the afternoon you would be taking 1.5 tabs. Usually, whatever the dose, 10 20 or 30mg, each tablet cost the same. Better yet, if you can get the generic 30mg's, take half in the morning half later.. one tab a day then. So if you are taking 30mg a day, try to explain to the doctor about cost, and that each tablet cost the same no matter what dose, and you can cut the cost to 1/3 right there.

Better yet, have you tried dexedrine? My doctor writes me a script for five 10mg "dextrostat" tabs a day. They only make 10mg ones (i heard that there are possibly 20mg dexedrines out now?) that are generic. I'm weening off this dexedrine/dextrostat/dextroamphetamine right now because ...well a lot of reasons. Anyway, I get this big, fat, bottle of 150 10mg tabs and it cost me LESS than 60 generic Adderall's would cost. I dont get nearly as much of a tolerance with dex, waaay less side effects compared to adderall (I think the levo-amphetamine is the cause of that), and they work better anyway. I'm not talking about the extended release dexedrine spanules, i've never had those - but these generic dextrostat's kick in fast, and they last...really almost as long as Adderall. With adderall I think I got the positive effects first, and then that wore off, leaving me feeling like shit, i'm guessing from the levo-amphetamine (i'd get jitters..bad mood..) The way I got my doc to prescribe these is because of cost, I said I looked it up and blah blah blah, my insurance only covers half, so eventually he let me switch. I'd have a huge ass stash of these if i wasn't giving them to my friends all the time.. (well i am sort of building up a lot of "extras", of course i'm not going to decline the monthly script)

Only problem is, if you have a script for 10mg dexedrine/dextrostat, it seems like its hard to find a pharmacy that has them in stock, so if you want them real bad you might have to call a few, but you can always have one particular pharmacy order them for you every month. Oh, and it seems like every time I go to get it filled, there's a big "huh? dextrostat?", and then I hear some talking "is this the amphetamine mixed salts?" (adderall), sometimes I have to shout back there, no its dexedrine or dextroamphetamine not Adderall. There is always the confused look on their face when they look at the script because they are so damn used to filling adderall scripts :)

Metadate CD is a very good, the "only" good, methylphenidate product. Since it is available in capsule it lasts the full duration expected. Also it is a mixture of both instant and extended release methylphenidate using the same structure as Dexedrine spansule capsule. It doesn't have a terrible rebound like most methylphenidate products and less of the "zombie" effect. It is fairly cheap so it won't burn a hole in your pocket.
