what is your opinion about organic food?
is it really free of chemical pestacides and fertalizers?
does it matter who "certifies" it as organic?

i think the stuff tastes better (doesn't taste like chemicals), but it could all be in my head...

what's your opinion?

I like organic food. If you happen to have a Trader Joes nearby, they are excellent. Just about everything in them is organic. And much of it is no more expensive than regular supermarkets.

The one thing I've heard to be careful about, though, is the charlatans. Some labels say 'organic' while either only loosely clinging to organic standards, or only having certain ingredients which are organic. I guess it pays to read the label.

I can't tell the difference in taste. Organic stuff looks messier, of course, because it hasn't had all the pests and diseases controlled. I don't feel any better if I eat organic than if I eat the regular stuff, but I do get a warm fuzzy feeling from knowing that it's easier on the environment.

Here in the UK, there are very definite standards for what is and is not organic, and I think you can be pretty sure that if it says 'organic' here, it is.

What would really interest me is inorganic food :)

I am a big fan off organic food. Especially with things like spinach, rocket, broccoli...actually basically all leafy greens i have to have organic just because of the pesticide residue which can build up within the stuff you get from the shops, you dont know what's in them.

Also all fruit, i especially love organic apples they taste sooo yummy and they aren't waxed to look 'pretty' 8).

I love how organic food looks like real food. It's unbelievable to me to actually see some of the fruit and vege's in the supermarket and how perfect they look. Everythings grown so perfectly, makes you think what the hell are they doing to it! Scary. :o

The toxins that are indegenously created by most plants to fight of inscects etc. are just as, if not more, toxic than the stuff they treat them with. There may be a few exceptions, but I think organic foods are just as safe and unsafe as mass market produce. Wash your fruits and veggies well and there is little risk, one way or the other.

The taste... that may be another issue. ;)

The only organic foods Ive ever eaten have been frozen dinners..pastas with veggies, stuff like that. They were extremely expensive and tasted kinda bland, in my opinion. Ive yet to try buying organic produce and cheeses and stuff..I might try those to see how they are. I always enjoy stuff more when its from my mothers garden than the supermarket. Nothing like eating something grown right at home!

In my experience organic vegetables have much more taste than 'non-organic' ones. Organic carrots in particular taste much better.

Trader Joes is amazing, their avacadoes are about half as expensive as the supermarket.

But remember, folks, meat can never be organic unless you get that Japanese massaged cow. ;)

I live on an organic farm btw
Anyway why organic is better is becuase the toxins that are used in non-organic can run into rivers and kill fish and other things like that. Also it makes it so some bugs are getting resistant to the pesticides, and then it could gentically mutate the bugs, and also it's really easy to wash off the pesticides but what if there's still small amounts remaing???? what if it somehow was absorbed into the veggie, then it gets inside us and is bad.
Anyway organic is better IMO but i'm baised maybe becuase i live on an organic ffarm

Likewise.

If I do ever have the spare cash I'll buy at least organic fruit and veg; but when some items are nearly double the cost of non-organic versions combined with a lack of cash I have to cope without them.

Organic foods are better for your body, however it takes the brain some getting used to.
I've eaten a lot of organic food, and I will advise to stay away from organic pizza. Or anything that is "bread like" with the exception of tortillas.
Organic spaghetti sauce is also a big mistake.

Also, before you make the switch from regular peanut butter to organic peanut butter, keep in mind that organic peanut butter is not very stable.

i agree, that is why i love organic foods. i've noticed it especially with organic apples and organic apple sauce.

I am wondering if there are certain products or vegetables that particually concetrate chemicals and if I should at least buy those or if it is an all or nothing thing??

If you can't afford to buy all your fruit & veg organic then try to at least get the following organic: spinach, rocket (all leafy greens), broccoil, strawberries, apples, carrots, potato.

These retain alot of pesticide residue. There was a longer list but i cant remember off the top of my head.

I love organic food, however, being rasied as I was, I refuse to give in to somethings. I must have, Heinz Ketchup, Hellman's Mayo, Breyers Ice Cream, and an occasional greasy pizza from Pizza Hut. I also hate organic milk. Other than that, I make sure that the meat I buy is organic, and most of the produce is too. I am from Asheville, NC and we have a few grocery stores here that are all organic. I love them.

Try this link, we have one here...also great for recipies!
