How much opium is needed to obtain the high effects?
Not to get totally plastered where you are nodding off, but a warm nice and toasty high. Assuming no tolerance what so ever.

How many mgs do you think that would be and how long do the effects last?
 
Real opium is gonna be around 15% morphine. With no tolerance a quarter of a gram (40mg or so) should be nice. Also remember that it's much better than oral MS Contins. smoking is a much better rout of admin.

No. A quarter gram of opium will be 250mg. In that quarter of a gram there will be roughly 40mg of morphine.
 
your opium will leave you much faster if you smoke it as opposed to eat it. Smoking is however, much more of a rush and the effects are nearly instantaneous.
 
Syd, you arent planning on buying any are you? If so , know your source really well. And if your source didnt grow the poppies himself/herself you should consider it fake until it's proven otherwise. Nothing short of a good nod or at the least a nice itch should be considered proof. Placebo's a bitch.

I have read enough about opium to know that most of what is claimed to be opium is indeed fake.
I am looking into the home cultivation of this plant, but only for the sheer beauty of the flower thats all!! *evil grin*
I'm just trying to find out how many poppies I would need growing to get even a decent amount...
 
You wont get any definate answers regarding opium yield. It varies. It's alot better than most people think tho. On average a single poppy pod will yeild 80mg. Like I said tho it varies. If you have shit pods and you grow them poorly you can harvest as little as 10mg or nothing at all. 80mg is the average tho.
Genetics plays a huge role in determing what your actual harvest will be. Some strains, like Persian Whites, are known for being extremely high yielding. Others, like Hens and Chicks, are known for producing very potent latex.
The great thing about growing poppies is that it is extremely low maintenance. Start with some good, tilled soil. Sprinkle your seeds ontop of it. Water till they sprout. Then water maybe ounce every two weeks or so. Feed some nutrients ounce a month. Plus you are harvesting an extremely concentrated smokeable opiate. Mmmmmmm....it's very rewarding.

If so I'd like to discuss a few things with you.
Those bastards on poppies.org dont reply to a damn question on the boards... even though I have tried looking through the older posts... but I guess I am not using the correct keyword...

2001 was my second year of growing. I dont have a ton of experience but I think I've read everything ever written on the subject. I tried to anyway.

okay.....so many of you seem to say that most opium is fake......does this fake opium often come as a black, tarry, opium smelling substance? or are you skeptics referring to the "dragons blood opium" and that "white opium" that they talk about on errowid?
....if you have some fake black, tarry, opium smelling fake opium, what IS it if it isn't real opium???
 
There was some fake opium around here that was referred to as "opium incense" it looks an awful like opium and smells exactly like opium, but as soon as you smoke it you know it's definitely not real opium. Tastes like shit, gives you a headache, and the "opium" hardens into little tiny burnt rockhard balls. I don't know if it's actually some brand on incense or what, but it's the most convincing of all the fake opiums that I've ever seen (have seen red rock but not white rock, the color alone pretty much gives it away).

If it's a black tar, you're doing good - but you will know right away if it's real or not.. one or two good hits and you will either feel it or not, if the latter is the case, it's fake...
As for what it is if it isn't real opium - there is a long list of shit it could be.. everything from shoe polish and powdered soap to various types of inscence (sp?) ..
Poppies are really easy to grow - they are like weeds it seems, and when we grew some outside, the next year a bunch more grew.. they require little water - very easy work.. it just takes too damn long to go from planting to harvest!
 
Ok, I am having a little sight seeing problem here.
The pods, the ones you slice with a blade to let the latex leak out, is that the same thing the flower bloomed in? and it just closed back up?
Or are there separate pods for the flower and the other pod?

Yo, Effigy what seed should I use? I am leaning towards persian whites, I'm hearing the best things about them.
