Opium Laudanum Tincture recipe needed

I want to make Laudanum or Opium Tincture. There are dozens of recipes on the Internet but most of these recipes haven been resourced from books that are literally hundreds of years old. I was wondering if there are any modern techniques in producing Opium Tincture. I have access to 10 grams of raw Opium acquired in Thailand last year. It still seems fresh. Does anyone know the ratio values of alcohol/opium to produce a strong but not deadly Tincture? Is Vodka the best solvent or ethyl alcohol?

Check out the book "Opium for the Masses". It has directions on all sorts of preparations.

I have never done it myself so I have no firsthand experience but my first Afghan poppy garden should be blooming in spring

The books and info on laudanum are hundreds of years old because that's when laudanum was used. I would go with the old recipes unless they are clearly unsafe, as in using unsafe chemicals.
