my usual source for most other substances told me today that he came across some opium and asked if i wanted to try. i am very interested but first thought i'd come on here and do the research. yes, i have checked erowid and lycaeum, but i would really like some first hand accounts of the ins and outs of doing it. any opinion or testimonial is welcome, like i said i am new to this (and all opiates 'cept vicodin) and could use the info. thanks everyone.

just because it looks like black tar doesnt mean it is. No offence to you or your dealer or anything, i am sure you have extremely good hookups, but my guess is if it "fell into your lap" that it is probably fake. I have seen and smoked first hand fake opium that looks exactly like black tar. Its called sopium (i think) and it is sold in the back of high times. It even smells like opium but its fake. If the opium you obtained is any color but a shiny black its definately fake. If its a shiny black tar then take a VERY SMALL amount and smoke it. If you feel no effects, no, you dont need to smoke more, you have fake opium. People dont realize that opium contains morphine and is very very potent and can easily kill you if you do too much. If by some miracle you really do get real black tar opium(and again i do not mean any offence at you or your dealer, black tar is just a rarity and the best of people and the best of dealers have had fake shit). don't just back a typical "bowl" of it and smoke away, that amount of opium would kill you and the other 3-5 people smoking it. Be very careful, and the best way to think of it is if you dont know for sure you are high, you have fake opium

i actually haven't bought it yet, so when i do i'll check out what you mentioned. so is the only way to tell by smoking a small portion? you said it is easy to od, how much is the right amount to (1) test if it's good and (2) get a good high without oding?
and no worries, i know even the best and most reliable hookups end up with bunk shit sometimes.

If it's black tar, there is a good chance it's real - it will smell good, taste good, and give you a nice, warm feeling when smoked - and NO, you couldn't overdose if you wanted to.. the amount of active narcotics per dose are very small - thats why it takes a fucking field of poppies to yeild enough opium to make a considerable amount of dope... of course for your first "sample" should be consumed BY ITSELF - don't smoke it on top of marijuana or you wil only trick yourself into thinking you feel the opium..
