Opiod treatment of Covid

Got Covid again for the third time. Here is what I did to treat it. First day, although I felt like death after my workout (my workout are at an insane intensity level) I didn't know I had Covid and didn't take anything except my prescription psyche meds (and I take Seroquel plus Ambien to sleep). This combination treats my horrible insomnia really well. Oh, I did take 4 grams of Kratom (my normal intake) which made me feel better.

The next day I woke up with a sore throat and heavy mucus, at first I thought it was a cold but I just kept feeling worse and worse. I had my normal morning and afternoon coffee. It became clear I had more than just a cold. I pretty much just suffered all day, and when the evening came I took some Dayquill and my normal 4 grams of Kratom. Kratom really does help you feel better if you have a cold or Covid. But I still felt really bad, so late at night I took a Tramadol. I have plenty of Oxy and Fentynal stashed but I felt the Tramadol was enough to get the job done and it did. I save the heavy opioids for when I really need them. I keep them stockpiled because I don't trust out medical system (I could write a Book as to why not).

The next day I felt the absolute worst when I woke up, death warmed over with tons of thick mucus....just horrible so I broke out the heavy artillery and took 30 mg of Oxy and a cup and a half of Coffee. That made a WORLD of difference. These painkiller drugs can help you so much in the right situation and this was one of them. Later in the evening I took my normal 4 grams of Kratom and didn't really need much else except a little Dayquill and then Nightquill when I went to bed.

Today I felt bad when I woke up but not as bad as the day before so I just had coffee and 1.5 grams of Kratom. Tonight I can probably be fine with just a little bit of Kratom and some Day/Nyquill.

But he bottom line is a little targeted opiod use can make a huge difference if you have Covid. Our medical industry I assure doesn't give a snit if you suffer and probably would not even consider giving you any.

I would suggest go easy on the workouts for the next 2 months. Or better still skip entirely, and in general rest up even if you feel physically fine. Due to whatever mechanism we don't quite understand yet, heavy exercise in the period right after a covid infection seems to exponentially up the chances of developing post-viral syndrome. Long covid forums (which I frequent because I'm still not entirely back to my former state of health following my 3rd infection over two years ago) are full of athletes and fitness enthusiasts who kept up with their usual training regime and it completely crashed them.

Purely from a harm reduction standpoint, you need to be checking your 02 sat with a finger pulse ox. As someone else pointed out, be careful with respiratory infections and respiratory depressants!

OP what you're describing is a historically common and effective treatment for respiratory illnesses. Opioids reduce subjective feelings of misery, mental and physical. To say that Opioids made you less miserable when you were sick is pretty much par for the course.

Opioids typically have powerful antitussive effects. Morphine products like Laudanum were great as they reduced misery, stopped coughing and thus stopped the disease from spreading and allowing the user to sleep without being awoken by coughing.

If you take the risks of addiction out of the equation, it qould be hard to argue against the use of Opioids in severe Covid.

The one glaring issue is that Opioids reduce respiratory depression. As Covid can lead to asphyxiation anyway, it would be irresponsible to give someone this medication if they weren't being monitored.

Yes, I really only took a grand total of 1 Oxy and 1 Tramadol. I don't think the modest amounts of Kratom caused any risk. I did not take anything last night except NyQuil. The very modest amounts were no danger, IMO.

Now in terms of workouts, that is going to be a tough one. I am notorious for training no matter what. Broken leg, I am in on crutches training upper body, etc. Doctors and pretty much everyone has been telling me to take it easy for 50 years (I am 63 started training at 13...I also wrestled and trained in MMA for 17 years). I've gotten Rhabdo twice and this now the third time I have gotten Covid.

I am feeling better today but of course taking today off and tomorrow too. My next workout will be biceps, forearms, and calves, not terribly taxing. The real challenge are my back and leg workouts. I may back off my training intensity a bit on those for a while. 2 months is out of the question but I will try and back off for a bit.
