Hi Guys,

I came across this article years ago and it piqued my interest. My interest in it is not so much the effect of anabolic steroids on powerlifting meets but the potential of one cycle to affect the strength of a person for a great many years.

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/09/080925072430.htm

I am 33 now and lifting several times a week (still pretty much a beginner ie. bodyweight bench, twice bodyweight deadlift etc) with the goal of being able to maintain my strength gains as long through my life as possible. I am thinking about the benefits of having more nuclei per muscle fibre as mentioned in this article. Does anyone think that it is worth researching enough to feel comfortable to run one cycle sometime in my 30's to potentially be stronger later in life?

PS. I love the bit where the researchers showed their amazing depth of understanding of powerlifting by describing the sport as using a dumbbell.

It was always my understanding that you dont really hold the gains from a cycle, due to the elevated levels of catablic hormones estrogen and cortisol post cycle. Many bodybuilders use PCT to combat the elevated levels, but it is inevitable to lose most of what you gained. This is why anabolic steroids become so addictive. You always want have what you had while you were on. Also, the chance of your testes producing less testosterone, even after one cycle, is there. So, you may actually be wearker later in life, without TRT.

You're not going to be stronger later in life years post cycle, you'll be weaker.

That study involves muscle memory and satellite cells, not the drugs themsevles.
