opiates

i posted a few days ago, my doctor prescribed me to take ultram and lortabs together. would there be cross tolerance between these two, they are both listed as opiate agonists. i usually take 22.5 or 28mg of hydrocodone, i've never taken ultram before. any advice?

Take around 250mgs of Ultram. Don't expect anything special, IMO they don't compare to Hydro or Oxy, and I am sure most others will agree. There are 2 forms of Ultram (50mg) & now Ultracet (37.5mg + 300mg of Apap

)
If you take around 25-30mg of Hydro, a good dose for Ultrams would be around 250-400 mg. First start w/ 250mg, then work you way up to 400mg if you think you need more.........

but do they act on the same receptors? so that taking 28mg of hydrocodene and then taking ultram on top of that, the ultram would not have much effect?

If i remember correctly from the Ultram info insert, it is not an opoid-based pharm, so how can this be an opiate agonist? also, I vaguely remember there being 50,100,and 200-mg Ultrams....and how the Ultram 50mg were comparable in pain relief as 60mg of codeine...according to the insert mind you. I personally found the ultrams to be a little better in terms of rec use, with more of a clear headed feeling and a general wellbeing feeling.....but that could have been due to the t4's APAP,,,,

Tramadol (ultram) acts in two ways: it is an opioid agonist and inhibits the uptake of serotonin/norepinephrine. So there will be partial cross-tolerance with hydrocodone. This means if you develop a vicodin (or heroin etc) tolerance by taking it a lot tramadol will have a weakened effect on you. It doesn't mean taking it on top of vicodin won't have any effect! Two pills of vicodin each act on the same receptors, but obviously will be better than one.
I really don't know if you'll get much benefit taking Ultram on top of Vicodin -- Ultram is kinda weak -- but it's worth a try.

man, i would say taking 250 mgs of ULTRAM is a bit steep IMO..
u wont get much of a HIGH, but id say to take around 50-100 mgs and see what happens..i got drowsy from 50 mgs of ULTRAM, and i have also heard that ULTRAM can cause seizures and other odd side effects at high doses..

Ultram is not a good recreational drug, it's that simple... take the hydro and bitch about the Ultram "not taking the edge off" ..
