I was wondering has anyone else ever had a problem falling asleep on anykind of opiates. Last night I blew a Oxy and could not fall asleep. This also happened on last saturday. I eventually took .5mg's of xanax and 4 melatonin's, but to no success. Does this happen to anyone else? Any Idea what could cause this, in the past sleeping was very easy to do on Oxy.
 
Yeah, OC does me the same way. You would think a downer would make you sleep well. But, I can never fall asleep or sleep well rested when I take them.
Anyone know why?

Perhaps it has something to do with the brain chemicals involved with opiates. It happens to me with hydro as well. Usually I find that melatonin and milk help. OTC sleep aids don't though. However, scripted sleep aids do. Don't really know the exact mechanism involved with this. Phreex?

Yeah I sometimes have trouble sleeping too. I 'nod' but often can't get past that point, It's only when I've had alot & am really high though, I'll be interested in the answers to this one.

What does heroin do to your sleep?
A: Heroin is a depressant that retards intellectual and motor functioning as well as reaction to pain. The drug also interferes with breathing because it is a powerful respiratory suppressant. Heroin decreases stage 3 and stage 4 NREM sleep and reduces REM sleep. Heroin also disturbs sleep by causing frequent shifts to stage 1 NREM sleep and wakefulness.

yeah i also have been taking OC's for some time now, and sometimes i will wake up early in the morning, around 4 AM and wont be able to fall asleep, so i will crucnh up and take 5-10 mgs of OC and then go back to sleep like a baby..other times, when i wake up reall early, i try to take some OC, and i am WIDE AWAKE in 20 minutes..i dont understand this either..i get to the point of nodding off after taking 20 mgs or so, but like stated above, i dont ever fall asleep..it gets to the point where i have to fight from falling asleep, but whern i start nodding off and TRY to go to sleep, i can't...fucked up..
 
This is especially odd, considering opioids are named after sleep! Papaver somniferum is Latin for "sleep-bringing poppy," and the word narcotic refers to a numbing, sleep-inducing drug.
I found some reports agreeing that opioids generally disrupt sleep. A couple papers suggested that opioids inhibited acetylcholine release in the medial pontine reticular formation; this region is apparanetly important for inducing REM (dreaming) sleep.
One paper seemed to suggest that coadministration of sugar reversed opioid effects on sleep in rats. So I'd suggest maybe eating something with a bunch of sugar in it when you want to sleep. Let me/us know if that helps!...
