I live with animals, not by choice. I've also tested this with outdoor allergies as well, since I have a lot of experience with opiates.

Has anyone ever noticed that once you take an opiate your allergies magically just go away? I could be sneezing and snotting all over the place (not from detox I'm positive) and even if I take a simple lortab 7.5 my allergies clear right up. Why is that?

Yes i have noticed the same thing. Without drugs i need an alergy pill or my nose can be like a faucet, and even with an alergy pill it still produces some shit not bad though

But give me some smack and the problem goes away

As does the pain and shit in my blood from crohns

Hell, this thread is makimg me think maybe getting back on heroin is a good idea... for health benefits of course ;)

Hell, it cures my EVERYTHING bro. Until it's gone that is. Then I wind up with extra illnesses that I didn't have before. Funny how that works, huh?

Not allergies related..but I used to get a really bad flu at the beginning of the year and at the end. I also would get incredibly bad strep throat RELIGIOUSLY every february +/- a few days before my bday. Once I started on opiates all that went away. I haven't been "sick sick" in YEARS.

I suppose its down to the analgesic effects of opioids...But it's funny how anticholinergics/antihistamines like Piriton and Nytol are used as allergy relief drugs (pretty effectively) by dulling histamine release, yet opioids seem to work just fine in spite of the fact they trigger histamine release so bad you scratch and itch all over.

Yea that is weird youre right thiugh

I have noticed this as well, and like the guy above I have not had a major case of the flu or anything worse than a mild cold since I picked up the habit. My bowels also work better if I am not on high/regular doses of an opiate. I can even eat ice cream if I take 5mg of oxycodone, if I even try to eat that stuff without an opiate I am in the bathroom within 20 minutes sshitting water.

I am mostly clean now and still going strong on the not catching the flu end.

Interesting thing to note is sneezing and runny nose were some of the first w/d symptoms I would have back durring heavy use and detox. Those would always clear up as soon as the oxycodone kicked in.

The downside is they can mask problems. I found lots of minor aches and pains were waiting on me when I detoxed. I assumed they were just part of w/d and some were, but others were not and required some treatment. For example one of my knees was in horrible shape for my age, and while I knew it was in bad shape before and while using I could not feel it most of the time so I was working on a bad knee that needed rest and did not even realize it. So now it is worse off than it should be and at some point I am going to have to have the joint replaced.

I am not saying that would not have happened anyway but I think if I could have felt the real pain level durring the years I was addicted to oxycodone I might have stayed off it more and gotten a few more good years out of it.

Addiction is the main concern of course, but opiates can cause other health problems too. Just keep an eye on yourself when you can, I know I wish I would have done so more often.

I made a post about this awhile back. Its very interesting to me that a lot of these "common ailments" go away while on regular use of opiates. Many say its simply masking the symptoms but I think there is more to it than that.

I recently had blood work done and had higher than normals counts of eosinophil. Obviously I'm not sure if it is related to my opiate use however I think its quite interesting that one of the reasons this type of white blood cell usually shows higher counts is when a person is fighting off allergies. I think a few studies have been done on this "theory" that opiates boost your immune system per se however nothing has been proven in depth. Obviously when you stop using, people tend to get sick (on top of w/d's) and the negative aspects of extended use probably far outweigh skipping the flu and common cold every few months but I'd love to know what exactly it is that causes this phenomena.

Has anyone else had blood work done during a string of opiate use and noticed any abnormal results?
