Opiates Before A Tattoo?

Anybody know if this is a bad idea? It would be nice to be able to take something before getting very long tattoo's done, but I don't know which ones are blood thinners or if there are any other adverse effects of getting a tattoo while on opiates. If anyone knows if they have any effect at all and if so which ones not to take before getting a tattoo your advice would be appreciated!
 
Don't take a lortab or percocet because they both have blood thinners. Ive hot a full sleeve and honestly didn't notice much of a difference when I tried this. Your gonna need a pure oxy pill such as oxycontin or roxicodone. The dopamine your body releases during the tatto helps just as good as the opiate does in my experience. Not worth it.
 
I, personally am not one to ever tell someone NOT to take an opiate. However, a tattoo is an extemely special and personal experience. I would not suggest altering your mind at all beforehand. Save it for after! Seriously, after a five hour session, it has its own high. I wasn't even able to drive immediately afterwards! I got super-baked right after and enjoyed it ten fold! Just man up!

opioids don't stop acute pain (like active pain..like a pile of needles stabbing you) very well. It would do little to numb the pain.

Ideally, one would use a local anaesthetic like benzocaine. Thats probably not available. Seeing as tattoo's are not really that painful (its skin deep needles, not open abdomen surgery) suck it up?

or if you must, a psycho stimulant may alter your perception of pain better then an opioid would.

But I'd just man up.
 
I'm covered in tattoos and I'm a body piercer. I do both on opiates because I'm always on them... But as far as tattoos go it won't blunt the pain and it will ruin your high. Just man up. I got my whole shin covered without opiates.... Since I've been in pain management I am always on Meds... But tattoos don't hurt that bad...

Also if you are visably high and the artist doesnt know you they might refuse to work on you.

You usually sign something explicitly saying that you are not under the influence of anything because, as others have said, you bleed worse.

Perhaps pain isn't the only factor. Taking a valium or xanax (not enough to make you high, just slightly relaxed) may help. I don't have any tattoos but I have contemplated getting one a while back and like others I wouldn't take anything for the pain, especially since I don't know how much it hurts. But I might take like 1mg xanax if I felt I needed it, but actually I'm not even sure I'd do that either. But as someone said earlier, the brain has it's own chemicals for coping with pain and anxiety. Hope you get a cool tattoo :D
 
Just take it like a man haha. I really suggest you just do it sober because its also a better experience. Also you'll be able to stay still easier... If it hurts really that bad tell your artist and he'll take a break but if you really want to take some opiates before a tattoo I suggest taking some oxy's. You will be perfectly fine on those but you'll still feel some pain.
