Where to begin. I started off using heroin(all white china, no tar bullshit) about a little over year and 3 months ago. Only a bag a day, But it soon escalated into a much larger addiction and 3 months later I was using 12-16 bags a day. I have never used a hypodermic needle to shoot up heroin, only snort it. I really want to quit this drug and do so before it completely ruins my life. I was in college before this started, I had a cushy little job, I had the love of my life my fiancé in my arms. I had a nice life. My fiancé introduced me to the drug, I found out she was doing it behind my back, and one stupid night last year I decided to try it with her instead of try to get her help. Now it's a over year a later, I've flunked out of college for the past 2 semesters. Cushy little job? Gone. Fiance? Gone as well, she chose the drug over me. She left last week after we had a huge argument about getting treatment after Christmas. That's when I just suspected something suspicious about her and went to check the savings accounts and bonds and very large sum was missing. I trusted this woman, we were together for 8 years almost and the drug turned a once bubbly, loving, and giving girl stone cold . Just last year I bought her a nice white house with a nice white picket fence with rooms she doesn't even use, because that's what she always wanted. And this horrific drug stole my life, my love and my trust for anyone. Thankfully she didn't take it all, I still have the house and enough to get by for a while. I just have to get this last little monkey off my back, I WANT IT BACK, I WANT MY CONTROL BACK OVER MY BODY. Now that I shed a little backstory, I want to quit ASAP. So here's what has transpired with me since then. I have dropped from 10-12 bags a day in a little over a week, to just one bag about every 18-24 hours, before my body aches. How long will a withdrawal last if I just stop cold turkey now? I have 11 subutex, should I even bother taking them? If so, how much should I take? I think they are 8mg tablets. Or should I just try and suck it up and go cold turkey? Please any help or answers would be greatly appreciated.

man honestly i would try to go cold turkey.. for me it seems anything that seems to help with withdraw gives some sort of buzz.. even with subs i seem to get into a habit of taking them just to take something.. if it gets outta hand and its either the horse or sub then id take half.. good luck bra! we all need it

Be careful with the subutex. I know some people swear by it and it can be a good thing if your going to a doctor who can regulate your dose and ween you off the correct way. But if your trying to self manage subutex it will most likely lead to another addiction. I'm 3 weeks off sub and still in withdrawals from it. The withdrawals off H would only last about 4-6 days. Like XN1919 said, I would go cold turkey off the H as that is ultimately the easiest way(even though it won't seem the easiest way when your in withdrawal, trust me it is). Maybe you can taper yourself even more before going CT. I will go ahead and throw you the name of some OTC meds that can help you tremendously during cold turkey(it will make it bearable):
Morning: Ibuprofen, strong vitamin B supplement, Imodium.
@ night: Melatonin, 5htp, Ibuprofen, Imodium.
some other meds of note that can help: kava kava extract, Canada dry tonic water(has Quinine and will potentiate the Imodium), A lot of cannabis.

The Imodium is the main med you want to take. It is completely safe to take it in large doses. Most people take 20-40mg to relieve withdrawal symptoms. If you take in this dosage, it actually binds to the opiate receptors in the gut and takes away the symptoms. You don't want to take it for more than a week or two but it will relieve the runs and the chills. This will not delay any progress on lessening your dependency, so it's a great med. I would suggest trying to take a shit in the morning before you take it or there's a good chance you will not shit for the rest of the day. Another med I would highly recommend if you can find or get a script is clonodine. When I used Clonodine + Imodium together, it relieved almost all of my withdrawal, I'm talking 80-95% of withdrawal was gone. Good luck.

That's a tough story man, but at least you have something to start on, and the will to do it.

I agree with Xn that your best option is cold turkey. It won't be fun but you've lowered your usage significantly already and it'll be the best way to purge your body and soul of the whole situation. You have a place to detox where no one will disturb you for as long as you need. That's more than 99% of addicts ever have. If you pick a regiment and stick to it in a week you won't be sick anymore and in a month you'll feel like a new person.

There's a long and helpful opioid withdrawal thread that will help you with all the tools and suggestions you need. Immodium is necessary. Benzodiazapines, cannabis, muscle relaxers or something similar can also be helpful to get over the uncomfortableness, but I'd stay away from the Subutex if you can as it will only prolong the discomfort (though it will minimize it).

You still have your house & some savings to help you along your way back......that's a lot compared to others. Look at the positives you have & focus on what you are trying to accomplish & try to forget the past because that's what it is, the past.

As far as withdraw goes, the people above fid a good job giving you the direction you need. It will be a tough road but that's expected, though you see to be doing well, you went from 12/16 bags down to a bag a day.

Good Luck.........

Definitely go for the Imodium. I see someone say Clonodine, I'm not a fan of it. I went to a detox facility and that's what they gave me, that's all they gave me except one muscle relaxer to help my RLS(it didn't help though). I was there for 5 days and not once did the Clonodine help. It's blood pressure meds. When you W/D your BP is high so they think if you can lower it than it'll decrease the intensity of W/D, but that seems like it would only work in THEORY. And from my experience with Clonodine, it does only work in theory. But people are different and react differently so it may help you or may not. I use oxycodone and I use it to just get high. I was never prescribed it or anything. I just use recreationally. I've never tried subs to get off oxycodone but every time I have to go through W/Ds I like to smoke bud. It doesn't help with the discomfort in my legs(which is what bothers me the most durring W/Ds) but I like to get high and weed satisfies that need and makes me a little more comfortable durring W/Ds. It takes my mind off things. I also like to sit around and play video games. To me, keeping my mind off the W/Ds helps out more than anything. Quiting cold turkey would be the best way because then you don't have to worry about getting addicted to anything else and I've heard withdrawals from subs are even worse.
