Hello all,

This past Wednesday I started withdrawals from a fairly mild heroin habit. I had about a day of pretty shitty WD's and then tapered wit subs. I am now 2 days clean of all opiates, including subs. I feel fine physically, mentally I suppose I'm still a bit sluggish but overall I feel fine. My nose is still runnier than ever, however, I can't go five seconds without sniffling.

My biggest concern is my appetite... I figured during the actual physical WD's I wouldn't want to eat due to the nausea it causes, but now that the physical symptoms are gone (the actual nausea, body aches, feeling like shit and all that) I still have little to no appetite. I will get hungry, sometimes very hungry, but I can't really eat anything, its like my body rejects food. I will go all day without eating and then force myself to eat whatever I can.

Is this normal? If so, when will it subside? Can I expect an appetite again sometime soon? I'm worried because I know a big part of regaining my energy and getting active again revolves around me being able to consume food. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I don't know about heroin, but when I was in the first part of detox about the first four days, I couldn't eat or drink anything. I lost 10 lbs in 4 days. But my appetite is back a little now at day 6 from a fairly high oxy addiction.. I am not eating like I should, usually just dinner, but I can drink water now, and that's what's most important, stay hydrated! It will come back, slowly!

I don't have an appetite even when on my full dose of methadone. It's perfectly normal that if you're in day 2 of withdrawal that you're not going to be hungry, probably at that stage most people wouldn't be able to hold down solid foods, let alone have an appetite for them. I would expect after a week or two you should have a bit more of an appetite. Try and exercise if your body allows, this can reduce depression and increase appetite, as well as being a general healthy thing to do.
