The more I continue to use opiates, namely oxycontin, I begin to notice strange effects during the comedowns. It usually starts around 3 hours after snorting, and mainly consists of paranoia, mild visual disturbances, depression, and irritability. Smoking marijuana seems to exacerbate the state. I will still continue to enjoy this drug regardless.
I have seen a number of terminally-ill people act very psychotic when taking large doses of strong narotics, but was unsure if the delerium was being caused by the process of dying itself.
Do opiates cause these effects, or is it a result of some latent psychological problem?

i get the same effect from oc. When i am buzzing i am fine, but when i start coming down maybe two hours after railing, i notice that the anxiety level starts to raise. Its the opiates in my opinion...

Yah, I have noticed something similar with heroin. I don't think it is caused directly by opiates per se, rather it seems to be a tolerance like effect.
In other words on opiates your anxiety is surpressed so you have sort of rebound anxiety as you come down before you compensate for being back at baseline. That is just a theory, but it seems quite reasonable.

I agree. I usually get really anxious on the come down. Sometimes (after about 7 hours since my last dose) I also get really depressed.

No, like I said, smoking marijuana only makes it worse, but is not the cause. On its own, marijuana doesn't give me any paranoia, and I found it strange that opiates were the first drugs to do so.
