Hi.. I've been taking Oxycontin for 10yrs.. 80mg 3x a day for fibromyalgia,.and within the last year I started taking xanax 2mg 4x a day.. I stopped taking both meds cold turkey on Feb 14Th.. I think I experienced every withdrawal known to man.. It's been about 3 months and I still feel really bad. I have no energy, depressed, still have aches and pains, can't sleep though the night, light still hurts my eyes and I can't see right,.memory loss,. and I don't feel right in my head.. I didn't know that stopping xanax cold turkey could really screw you up but it's a little to late for tapering now.. I did end up in the hospital with chest pains The doctors told me that stopping xanax cold turkey could of killed me but they think I'm out of the woods now..Anyway my question is am I ever gonna feel normal again or did the meds mess me up for life.. :|

Great job on getting off everything :) I can't comment on the benzo/opiate withdrawal because I've never experienced it, but I think it's important to remember that stopping drug use is not necessarily sufficient for feeling good. Stopping drug use can stop the problems caused by the drug use, but if there are other reasons for how you feel then they will need to be addressed as well.

So it's often the case that underlying emotions that were otherwise being suppressed come to the surface. Or that certain things about your life that you were unhappy with but ignored may become more obvious now that you are seeing things more clearly.

If you can find some sort of easy activity that you enjoy doing, maybe by slowly starting to engage more in your life you'll build back the energy required to be fully functional. It can't hurt anyways...sometimes a gentle push creates a lot of momentum.

My prediction is that you will indeed recover. Stay the course you are on, don't go back to using. 10 years is a long time to be on opiates so you have to expect that it will take your brain some time to adjust. Have you seen ANY improvements thusfar? If so,what improvements have you noticed?

I second that. Especially the fibromyalgia will certainly will be more obvious.

sounds like PAWS to me, you will recover but its going to take work and strength.....

stay off the drugs, you are doing great!

i would seek counselling and / or NA ( or other groups ), and start to work out in some fashion......also working on a healthy diet is a great idea...............

u'll recover. maybe read about how these nmda antagonists: mxe - methoxetamine, ketamine, or pcp analogs are are great medicine for serious drug habits in my experience. I just know that feeling bAD ruined my clean time because i did everything right for a year and still wasnt feeling ok. I want u and know u can succeed. i am not telling u to get addicted to another class of drugs., but that even in a microdose nasal spray, it may help during those very desperate times.

Wow, 240mg OC and 8mg Xanax over that period of time is a quite hefty little issue you had going on there IMO. But congrats for getting off, I know those withdrawals were absolute horror for you and I feel your pain. Keep it up though, if you've toughed it out for this long, you can do it for good!

Out of curiosity why did you stop taking those meds/drugs? I mean good job getting clean, those wd's must have been pure hell, but shouldn't you be on some sort of pain medication for the fibromyalgia? I understand that your doses have been more than "medical" but how do you manage the fibromyalgia without medication or do you have something else for it?

PS. I think as far as recovery goes you will recover, it will just take time...
