please help. my boy friend had what i thaought was a slight opiti mainly lortabs problem which i didnt relize it was as bad as it was. well recently in the last two weeks he has been useing opanas and redicouls amounts of opana and is now withdrawling. I really want there for him and help him through this. I myself doesnt use anything accept pot. so it is hard for me to I guess comprehend what he is going through. what can i do to help. is there anything i can do to make this easier on him? he has suggessted methadone or suboxone or loratab and me hold it and only give him small doses at certian times to winene himself off. would that not just be tradeing out your addiction? like i said its hard for me to understand the addiction. so if you have any help or advice i would apperciate it? I want to understand and be by his side through this ?i just fear he is going to od at somepoint.

My only advice is to continue to rip the band-aid off quickly. If he is already in w/d I would not recommend treating it with any opiate. This will only prolong the inevitable in my experience. Some people swear by tapering but it takes a long time and you are still semi miserable during the taper. Just be there with him and help him be strong. Make him get up and move around at least a little everyday(sex is great if he is up to it) and also treat the symptoms. Search this board for the Thomas Method if you would like some in depth instructions but mainly pick him up some Loperamide(Immodium) Some sort of sleep aid and benzo's or weed will help a little as well. Other than that treat it like the flu and know that you are right you can not comprehend what he is going through. Do not pretend to, just he there for him and be moral support and pick up those meds mentioned. Clonidine is a big help if you happen to have access to it also. Good luck to your friend I know his pain very well and wish him the best in the future.
