Opana History Withdrawal Question

Hello, I am new to Bluelight and a first time poster on a forum, ever!
I have a question for the community that I was hoping someone could answer for a buddy of mine.

SWIM has been proscribed Opana for his shoulder for the last three months at a dosage of 45mg per day. Jim generally take the whole daily amount, insufflated, but would usually run out a few days before Jim's refill. To bide the time jimmy would find some oxycontin, taking 30 - 45mg per day until the refill.

Currently Jim ran out of his Opana last Thursday but was able to get some oxycontin on the Friday, taking 70mg that day, 50mg yesterday, and has only taken 30mg today. Tomorrow Jim will be completely out and cannot refill until this coming Friday.

Jim's question (finally, I know) is how extensive the withdrawals will be and when they will start? Jim's thinks he started going through withdrawals Thursday night when he felt his spine tingling all night, couldnt sleep until 6am, and was sweating constantly. Symptoms were mostly gone when Jim woke up but he did not feel completely right until he found the oxycontin. SWIM also suffers from anxiety and is not sure if that was in fact it and not withdrawals.

Please help friends!! Jim is really nervous as he has never gone through complete WD's before

Thanks in advance!

We don't use 'SWIM' here, so please edit that out and don't use it again.

For your first withdrawal it usually takes a few days to begin, but considering you took lower doses towards the end they will probably start around 48 hours after your last dose, give or take 12 hours.

It's not good to expect bad withdrawals as a lot of it is mental, so just go about your days like normal, and try not to think about it.
This thread has methods of dealing with withdrawal, so I recommend reading through that.

Thank you for your response, very informative. Since the opana ran out Thursday and just been OC's since do you think that would effect/lessen the withdrawal symptoms?
Also if the symptoms do not start for a couple days, and opana was taken Thursday around 3pm that wouldn't make sense that the inability to sleep, spine tingling, and general anxiety were just an anxiety attack?

Thank you for the link, that's super helpful.

If you ran out that day then it seems unlikely that you would already be withdrawing that night, but everybody is different so I can't say for sure. Taking the oxycodone for those 3 days might have helped your body ween down a bit, but in my experience a longer taper with oxycodone is needed if you want it to help minimize withdrawals, so it's unlikely the 3 days on it will change the outcome of things.

Also, just say "I" instead of "Jim." When I said we don't use SWIM I meant that to include everything other than just talking normally.

Thanks Tommyboy, you have been incredibly helpful and definitely eased my anxiety about hitting real wd's for the first time. On my way to pick up some Loperamide from the drug store right now, that mega thread is awesome!

And lesson learned, no more SWIM or Jim haha, just good ol' me

Also, what forum should this post have been in? After being on here for little while it seems it should go in general drug discussion, is that correct?

I'll move it to the correct forum. I'll try it in basic drug discussion, but it might be sent to OD.

In my experience withdrawls from nasal Opana do come on quickly. Less than 24 hours for sure, but I was used to frequent dosing(small lines every 2 - 4 hours, 6hrs max even at night) and was on it for 11 months.

One thing I will say is IME tolerance can drop very quickly with Opana so be careful if/when you go back to it. When I had a habit I needed about 12 - 15mg insufflated to get high and after a 30 day break it only took 3mg to get me a nice high and 6mg to get me very high. It was only that way for a few days but definately be careful if/when you return.

Hobble is right, Busted Shoulder. Withdrawals after an intranasal habit come on quickly and strongly, like within 6-12 hours-depending on the size of your habit and the frequency. Personally, I couldn't get out of bed for the first 48 hours, although I don't want to scare you. (My habit was between 120-150 mg daily, without benefit of a taper.) So, hunker down the best you can, get some alternate opiates if possible, or some benzos if you have them. This torment of withdrawal, and nearly becoming an IV drug user because of it, taught me that nothing was worth going through this. I learned to be a lot more responsible about my pain meds after going through several of these nightmares. Thank God I finally got some self control but at a huge cost. I'll say a prayer for you, and I hope this withdrawal is your last. Take it as easy as possible and remember it is within your power to prevent this from happening ever again. Be kind enough to yourself to not allow things to get this out of hand again. You don't deserve to feel like this. And also remember this too shall pass. Before you know it, you'll have your meds again and the horror show will be over.

W/D's from snorting Opanas is absolutely Brutal! Sorry to be so blunt but I've had them before but luckily not too long. So, I read you came upon some oxys. If you can land some of those, hold out on taking some until it's too much to handle, then do a little to stop the W'D's. Spread them out to keep from getting sick. Sorry, but you probably won't be able to get enough to get buzzed, just enough to stop hurting. If not, I feel for you but get some advil and imodium (for the dia) and do the best you can. Good Luck!

One more thing-I should reiterate what Hobble said about tolerance. It really does drop quickly. After being out for 9 days, I took one 15mg er pill orally and snorted less than 10mg and was puking all night long from an unintentional OD. So once you get your script refilled, start way smaller than usual. Overdose is a very real possibility.
