Hi all,
I recently dislocated my knee, upon falling bruised 2 ribs which for those who haven't been through it, hurts like a bitch. After having it popped back in, I received a script for hydrocodone 7.5/ibuprofen 200, qty 50, 1-2 tablets every 4-6 hrs for pain, 1 refill.
Pain supposedly subsides after 2-3 weeks.
I've been on narcotics before after major cranio-facial surgeries, (jaw wired shut 6 months, etc) but that was more of a long term thing, and I kept on a strict regiment so I wouldn't run out before 30 days.
This time, however, the pain is bad enough that I actually take 2 every 4 hours, pretty much around the clock. i.e. when I take my bedtime dose around 11pm, the pain will wake me up at 3:15am ish. I just received the script 7 days ago and am nearly through it. I did the math, and at 2 pills x6 times in a 24 hr period, I should feasibly run out after 4.6 days. I skipped a couple of doses and just tried naproxen, to no pain reducing avail. My Dr. told me to take the pills as needed until pain subsided, giving no indication of how long he considered appropriate before refill.
I know my insurance won't cover this soon after original fill. My question is, if I pay out of pocket on Tuesday, 8 days after original fill, will they allow the refill? If not, worst case scenario, will they squash the refill?
I did UTFSE but most scenarios people discuss are those on long term pain management plans, trying to fill their script intended for 30 days a few days early.
This is an entirely different scenario. I am in fairly serious pain, and I won't be (hopefully) in 20 days when I can (ironically) refill the script with no questions asked.
SO, tldnr sum up, are there circumstances where pharmacies fill early? Just fyi, it is a small mom-pop operation, not CVS or something similar.
Thanks for any advice-sorry if this is either somehow against the rules or (more likely) on the wrong board-Mods, feel free to move to appropriate board.
