Seizure concern

Guest
So I'm having some anxiety about a recent binge that I did involving alcohol and xanax this past weekend.

I spent a day drinking alcohol to the point of being very intoxicated but not blackout, for a day party. Around 4pm, after 5 hours of drinking, I took 1mg of xanax. Around an hour later I took another 1mg, then finally around 11pm I took a 3rd mg.

So a total of 3mg.

I've mixed alcohol and klonopin on a handful of occasions, but I am not a regular user of benzos.

Would this one occasion put me at risk of seizure or other benzo wd symptoms? I'm only asking because the combination of alcohol and benzos seems scary, and I'm feeling some weird side effects this week (a little out of it, some tingling in my hand).

It's also worth noting that I had been on hydrocodone for the week leading up to the day of xanax/alcohol binge (I stopped on Thursday, so didn't mix with the alcohol or xanax).

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated (looking to see if a lot of alcohol + 3mg of xanax can do permanent damage after one occurrence).

Thank you!

This is an addition to the above post.

I also was given some Valium for an operation I had the week before (hence the hydrocodone that week).

I'm not a regular user or abuser of pills, but I had Valium for the operation (with morphine likely), followed by a week of hydrocodone. I have had some hydrocodone this week as well (following the xanax/booze night), but I've now stopped.

Hopefully that's a more accurate picture.

I'm still curious about the same info: would 3mg of xanax plus a lot of booze put me at a seizure risk (in light of the rare few weeks of opiod use and the one time dose of Valium for the operation)

Thanks!

No seizure risk builds up over time because your body becomes used to having the drug always in your system and becomes dependent on them. You would have to abuse benzos and alcohol for a couple weeks daily to even begin to worry about seizures. One day of binging won't do it.

Thank you guys both so much!

One final question: even with the dose of Valium I received a week before for the surgery, do you still think seizure/wd is unlikely?

I know Valium and xanax are both in the same family...

Thanks!

No, that would do nothing. Neither would the hydrocodone use.

If you even had any withdrawal symptoms it would be irritability, restlessness, anxiety, etc. Seizures are mostly a risk for long consistent use of higher doses.

You haven't mentioned your drinking habits. If you are drinking heavily daily the benzos could precipitate withdrawal I guess if you suddenly stopped drinking as well. It seems highly unlikely unless you are an undiagnosed epileptic.

If you are really so worried you should see a doctor. You probably just have anxiety whose symptoms can mimic anything.

single use can't trigger withdrawal. only rebound symptoms which are a milder version of what you get in withdrawal.
