This probably will sound weird and/or stupid but i've noticed that easily the majority of BL'ers aren't into the Top40 scene. whether they're into the rave scene, rock scene or whatever, they're not into the commercial scene.
since the commercial scene thrives on popularity, why aren't the majority of you BL'ers into it? is it because you've seen the light and hate the cheesy sounds that the radio blasts out at you 24/7? has your drug use opened your mind to 10x better music? or was it another thing (explain :D)?
or am i totally wrong and the majority of you BL'ers ARE into the commercial scene?

for me, i didn't think there was any other genre's out there apart from metal and commercial, so i just kept on listening to them 'till i saw an add on TV about the new Hard-NRG cd (vol.2) and thought, fuck that sounds sick. i went out and bought it and haven't looked back since :D now i can't stand commercial music at all, i don't know why, but to me it just sounds so cheaply made, and is made for the masses. i still love the odd bit of metal, but trance and hard-trance is my music.

i hope this made sense, i'm tired and when i'm tired i just ramble, so sorry :D

I used to be the top 40 queen! hehe :) I started taking pills when I was clubbing at places such as coogee, shelbourne, pontoon etc ... then when I discovered Sounds ... the style of music played in the courtyard - all the funky house started growing on me.

Eventually I started going other places to find more house music ... and now I hardly listen to top 40.

I don't hate top 40 but I don't go to clubs that play the commercial stuff anymore.

Listening to the radio at work is a big enough dosage for me :)

Hard-NRG cd (vol.2)

hehe thats commercialism to me :p

What do you consider Top 40? Is Pearl Jam Top 40? Or maybe Foo Fighters?

Top 40 is a little broad....

yeah, your right.
most people who use this site, seem to be ravers, that's the impression i've always had!!!
and it use to piss me off, as I wasn't a clubber, but a pub goer, and hated techno, however later on i got into techno, and love my house music!!!!
i do listen to radio, and it is a commercial station, triplem!!!
i love my rock!!!
people who use this site, love all music, however due to drugs being mostly associated with dance music, you can rest assure that most people on this site love a good banging track they can get up and dance too!!!!

Hmmm... I think top forty appeals to people who dont get specifically into any genre of music.. but then again top 40 is its own. Top 40 is a mixture of R&B rock and pop and is played at pretty much every pub or semi club in sydney so there is an extremely large exposure to it. Every radio station bar triple J and 2SER which is famous for the shit it plays play top 40.

To be honest I didnt start even listening to Music like House or Trance until I started paying cover charges at clubs.

The reason why I dont like commercial music is most probably because Top40 never really gets very Funky and never really explores the whole house scene... same with trance.

The commercial trance that is played on the radio ie Dj Sammy is such shit that it is nothing like the stuff u are likely to hear at any club night. To be perfectly honest I dont like ministry of sound stuff because it does try to represent the top 40 dance crowd too much.

The Hard NRG stuff though is not bad though.

I dont think u can call anyone who doesnt like the music on the radio as some kind of snob though, people like the music that makes them feel good and ive found that I have to explore deeper to find the music that moves me....

But i must say sometimes all u wanna hear is Kylie or Robbie Williams 8(

as if hard-nrg is commercial :D

anyway, it's kind of hard to explain what top40 is, but foo fighters and jearl jam aren't top40, definetly.. it's basically what gets played on nova, foxfm, and 101.1 over and over really..

Hello !

I love kylie, she is my hero since i was 6 !!
I love j.lo she is my role model (yes i want to be an uber super bitch princess just like her !)
I love that new justin timberlake song "Rock Your Body" and ohh err that song "In da club" THAT song rocks. and its number one at the mo.

Is THAT commercial enough for you ?

To me, Hard-NRG, advertised on TV music is commercial and mainstream ;) - sorry. I'm NOT saying that that is a bad thing - I totally love some pop music (Pet Shop Boys, some Madonna, T Rex, the Beatles ;) )

What I am saying is, don't be too snobbish about music...there'll always be someone to tell you you should be listening to psy-trance or hardcore DnB rather than hard trance....

I guess you could some up top 40, by looking at the Top 40 countdown, on Pepsi Smash Hits! or Channel V's top10 or today fm's..

You get the picture?

My thoughts, is that cause ectasy is generally related to the electronic scene, those that jump into bluelight are generally into the electronic scene, instead of another scene where perhaps, drinking is the predominant drug of choice?

Its coz we all thing we're hardcore, underground and independant. Commercial music is what the'average' person listens to.. and coz we take more drugs we're so much more enlightened to what 'real' music is.

I personally dont like most commercial music coz it all sounds the same. Thats why I really dont like RnB, coz its all so very similar. Some commercial songs I really like tho, and thats mainly coz they stand out. Songs with great lyrics, or a beautiful melody.

But as always with music. Someone will always be there to tell you how crap your choice of music is, and how much better theirs is.

stace.

i reckon that a majority of peoiple who post on bluelight found bluelight because they AREN'T in to the commerical scenes... they seeks something a bit different to what the top 40 is offering them...

Isn't that how most underground scenes begin? It's only when heaps of people realise that a particular underground scene is "cool" that the scene becomes more commericalised... :\

After listening to the radio for the last few hours I change my mind... hehehe POP music rules.

why because its popular... if people have bad taste because they listen to "popular" music then therefore most people must have bad taste..

Personally I hate it when people say oh that band sold out by going pop etc, but they are appealing to a much broader audience so that they can entertain them... Music snobs piss me off because they try to criticise a song rather than enjoy it.... :\

meh Mozart or Kylie its both unreal

Your right this site ain't populated by Top 40, Justin Timberlake jive turkeys- it's populated by degenerate drug fiends hell bent on forcing top 40 midget porn into your cerebral processes! Beware! ;)

I listen to what I like.

I don't like what the Radio, MTV, Channel V, Rolling Stone or anything else which is driven by a corporation tells me to like unless it really is good music.

Backo, 'popular' music is what corporations tell you is popular. They aren't really popular because of the huge amounts of true fans.

Think about it.
Avril Lavine has sold millions of really shit records.

Why did she become popular>
-Huge Record label getting her massive play time, and using thier links with Rolling Stone and MTV to promote the artist as 'the next big thing'.
-'Popular' image of a rockstar (smashes guitar, doesn't give a shit, doesn't know a shit, has flashy video clips, sexy woman, masculine traits, etc)
-Promoters with lots of $$$ able to send her to Melbourne Park and other BIG venues world wide.

Its all about $.
CA:)

i would say its because the majority of people that listen to top 40 music arnt the type to go and take drugs every weekend

BREAKaBEAT you will note that he didn't say 'all'.

So, really, while I could be inflammatory, and go and start a thread saying "The Poxy Infection of Techno in my scene" I don't. One reason.

Tolerance.

You tolerate my musical taste, and I might just tolerate yours.
